The Town of View Royal is a growing residential community in the Greater Victoria area with a population of approximately 11,575. Building Inspector – Level 3

1 Regular Full-Time Position
($52.86/hour)

Under the general direction of the Director of Development Services, the Building Inspector – Level 3 is responsible for technical and skilled work in the regulation and inspection of buildings and in the enforcement of the BC Building Code, the BC Plumbing Code, and municipal bylaws. The Building Inspector – Level 3 examines all types of building plans from simple to complex in size and design, related to new construction, alterations, repairs, and additions and inspects or monitors work in progress to ensure that work is performed in accordance with applicable regulations, codes and standards.

The ideal candidate for this position will be highly organized and motivated with a demonstrated knowledge of construction methods and materials and be familiar with provincial statutes and regulations as they apply to property issues. The candidate will also have excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.

In addition, the following essential qualifications are required:

• Grade 12 education or equivalent;
• Building Officials’ Association of B.C. Level 3 Certificate, Building Official’s Association of BC (BOABC) Certificate, and Plumbing Inspectors Association of B.C. Level 1 Certificate;
• A minimum of six (6) years inspection experience as a Building Inspector with plan checking skills;
• Technical degree or diploma in engineering, civil or building technology, or equivalent training and experience;
• Must be willing to obtain further education in the field of building inspection and construction methods and maintain professional designation with the Building Officials Association of BC;
• Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.
