This position will be an 11 month Term position based on the commencement of the Term and on receipt of funding.

Under the supervision of the School Administrator and in collaboration with school teams the Community Support Worker is responsible for providing programming supports to students and their families.

Qualifications:

- Youth Care Worker, Early Childhood Educator, or related experience in social services.

- Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills; problem solving, decision-making, assessment and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work independently and with school teams.

- Skills and knowledge in program development in areas related to cultural programming, health and healthy living, identity, and mental health.

- Ability to network with various professional community members and organizations.

- Valid class 5 Drivers Licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities & Duties:

- Connect and build positive relationships with all students and families.

- Organize and coordinate workshops for parents/community members on a variety of topics including nutrition, parent education, literacy/numeracy programming, awareness, computer skills and Indigenous programming etc.

- Compile information for financial reporting as it relates to to community school funding/expenditures (i.e. track activities and outcomes, expenditure items and development of partnerships).

- Conduct home visits to meet with parents in their homes to offer emotional support and provide basic necessities related to family well-being and educational success.

- Help maintain home-school connections and support families in order to improve attendance concerns.

- Accompany parents to meetings/appointments as required.

- Advocate for families and student needs with school staff, other service providers, and professionals as required.

- Assists with school-community planning, evaluation of activities and preparation of year end reports.

- Work with the divisional summer programs to include students for participation in activities.

- Participate in events and activities related to the Community Schools Program.

Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check will be required.
