This position is embedded within the Nanaimo and Oceanside area and the Coordinator must be within driving distance of these communities.

JOB PURPOSE

This position weaves the work of the Nanaimo/Oceanside Community Health Network (CHN) with the Impact work of United Way British Columbia (UWBC) to effectively support improvements within community health. The CHN works to foster local collaboration to advance the health and well being of community. This is done through addressing complex factors that influence health and generate a community wide approach to building healthy communities. Health Networks work to build a common understanding of what generates and increases health for communities, enabling identification of shared priorities and collective action. The Coordinator is integral to this work by helping create and support a culture of cooperation, collaboration and innovation among community organizations and groups in the Nanaimo and Oceanside regions.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Key Responsibilities: Network Development and Operations

  • Facilitating the creation and review of plans and strategies with the leadership tables and monitoring progress.
  • Delivering work plans, priorities and deliverables within assigned budgets and timelines.
  • Facilitate Network Leadership meetings.
  • Delivering monthly reports to the leadership tables and quarterly and annual reports to UWBC and Island Health.
  • Documenting and following up on important actions and decisions from meetings.
  • Organizing and documenting meetings and events, facilitating electronic communication, and keeping records on behalf of the CHN.
  • Seeking out additional funding, or resource opportunities that may support the work of the Health Networks. This will include the preparation of grant applications as directed by, or in coordination with, the leadership tables and UWBC
  • Monitor grant funding to ensure fiscal accountability and efficiency within the defined parameters
  • Keeping abreast of relevant new developments and research related to the local context.

Key Responsibilities: Project Coordination

  • Organizes and facilitates CHN projects, events, initiatives such as consultations, and local capacity building.
  • Maintaining and monitoring project plans and project schedules.

Key Responsibilities: Relationship Management

  • Facilitates the relationships between community stakeholders, CHN and UWBC initiatives in the Nanaimo/Oceanside areas.
  • Assists with implementing engagement strategies and tactics that ensure consistent and open communications, and mutual understanding of mandates and goals.
  • Represents CHN and UWBC on relevant task forces and networks.
  • Raising awareness and maintaining the public profile for the CHN and UWBC by actively seeking out and connecting with current and future stakeholders and participating in creative and timely discussion and community engagement opportunities.
  • Participates in mobilizing the CHN to address social determinants of health issues in the Nanaimo/Oceanside area.


Community Impact and Investment (CII)

  • Attend UWBC All Staff meetings.
  • Share community based information with the Impact team.
  • Share UWBC Impact and Investment information and opportunities with the Network.

General

  • Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job.
  • May participate in supporting UWBC operational requirements (e.g. fundraising activities, office operations, etc.).


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Minimum two (2) year diploma in Social Sciences or similar discipline
  • University degree in Social Sciences or a related discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years relevant experience, including: research, analysis, and report and proposal writing; experience working with populations relevant to the area
  • Direct organizational development, program management, and social planning experience
  • Experience with the social/non-profit sector, desirable
  • Project management experience and experience working with volunteers at various levels throughout the community

Skills:

  • Strong project management skills (e.g. planning, implementation, coordination, risk management, follow-up, reporting), including ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders in order to ensure successful and timely completion of projects
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving, and time management skills including the ability to understand the broader implications of plans and activities
  • Demonstrated ability to provide accurate and timely information under tight deadlines
  • Proven proficiency with MS Office and relevant technology (databases, spreadsheets, project management, etc.)
  • Facilitation and group problem-solving skills. Good training and presentation skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external interactions;
  • Ability to analyze, develop and implement processes and procedures in workflow to achieve objectives
  • Ability to understand financial transactions and to review/correct/balance financial transactions.
  • Must exhibit high attention to task orientated detail


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexible schedule to meet the demands of the role, including working outside of traditional hours
  • Requires a driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Must live in the assigned region of the province- Central & Northern Vancouver Island (Nanaimo Office)

This is a bargaining unit role with CUPE 1760. This position is a pay grade 36 which is $70,344.52 annually.
