The Position

Custom Concrete (Northern) crushing division is currently searching for a Crusher Plant Operator who is responsible for working with the crushing team to operate the crushing plant, ensuring effective operations to maintain or exceed quality and production goals.

This position is a remote location opportunity south of Gogama, Ontario which operates on a 2 week (14 day) on and 1 week (7 day) off rotation. Accommodations are provided in a camp setting.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work activities with Plant Supervisor, and provide support as necessary
  • Conduct and record daily safety meetings and hazard assessments
  • Perform minor maintenance on crusher circuit including assisting with changing screens and rollers, conveyors
  • Manages a program of preventative maintenance and repair of equipment in field in accordance with production needs and company policies and objective
  • Under the direction of the supervisor, coordinate, and schedule the daily activities at the crusher site
  • Inspect work progress and equipment at the crusher site to ensure production goals are being met safely and efficiently
  • Ensure all safety requirements are strictly enforced
  • Responsible for quality control
  • Promote and maintain a positive work environment
  • Conduct on the job training in the field as needed
  • Maintain a detailed and accurate foreman log ensuring all areas are filled out accurately on a daily basis
  • Ensure adherence to all company rules, policies and procedures including company and regulatory
  • Record information such as production rates, and haulage data on specified forms and reports
  • Consistently monitor equipment status to ensure working conditions
  • Able to operate a variety of hand and power tools
  • Use correct procedures when changing or adjusting screens, belts, rollers, jaw plates, cones, belt repairs and motor swaps
  • Assist with maintenance and fueling of equipment when necessary
  • Report any equipment deficiencies to supervisor
  • Shovel out all areas that are too small for the skid steer to operate effectively
  • Check all fluid levels daily on all crusher components
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills, Abilities and Experience

  • The successful candidate will have completed Grade 12 or equivalent, and should have previous related experience working in remote, camp environments
  • 3 years of proven operational and supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of quarry and aggregate industry
  • Experience in the construction and mining industry considered an asset
  • Able to operate a variety of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate a loader and rock truck in a safe manner over a variety of terrain, and to safely load and unload uncrushed gravel into crusher
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and interest
  • Good communication skills to understand verbal instructions and to relay maintenance concerns
  • Ability to use electrical and air power tools
  • Must demonstrate strong communication skills
  • A positive and proactive attitude towards safety is essential

Work Environment and Physical Conditions

  • This position works in a gravel crushing plant, exposed to noise and dust, as well as conveyor belts, crushing equipment that require the candidate to be fit for duty and to operate in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to work outside and be exposed to all forms of weather conditions
  • Physical requirements include: standing, walking, bending, sitting when driving, routinely lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Climbing ladders up to 2.5 meters
  • Good depth perception and hand-eye coordination are requirements of this job
  • Use of hands, finger dexterity for manipulating the controls while operating equipment and plant is required
  • This is a safety sensitive position
