Are you looking for a great opportunity to connect people to nature, and help them make memories in one of our Provincial Parks? If so, the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport is looking for you to lead the Visitor Experience and Public Programming branch.

The position reports to the Executive Director, Visitor Experiences, and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of public and educational programming for Saskatchewan Provincial Parks, which attracts more 100,000 visitors annually. Related responsibilities for this include directing and overseeing policy development, procedures, training, program development and evaluation.

The Director of Visitor Experience and Public Programming oversees cultural resources management and protection in all park lands and historic parks. They are also responsible for planning and development of the trail experience and signage within the provincial park system.

This position is the leader of the visitor experience within Saskatchewan Parks, including using data and analysis to inform decision-making and to foster continuous improvement. The position is also responsible for a visitor experience strategy and execution plan.

The Director works with the Manager of the unit to provide leadership and direction to program and park interpretive staff in provincial parks around the province. The position travels to engage with staff and oversee park programming in provincial parks throughout the province.

The knowledge and abilities for this position are typically gained through a university degree in marketing, education or public administration and several years of related experience.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience related to program development and customer service principles.
  • Knowledge of the human resource principles and practices including staffing, performance evaluation, coaching, training, supervising, and performance management and conflict resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Efficient collaboration and relationship building skills.
  • Effective leadership and coaching skills to lead and guide team members.
  • Strong organization skills and be attentive to detail.
  • Knowledge and experience with government decision making processes.
  • A solid track record building and maintaining credible, collaborative relationships across the public service and working together with other senior leaders to meet organization and citizen needs.
  • Superior analytical and execution skills, combined with clear proficiency in evaluating issues, offering alternatives and creating solutions.
