Drainage Technologist Job at R.J. BURNSIDE & ASSOCIATES LIMITED

Burnside is looking for an energetic Drainage Technologist to assist professional engineers and technical staff in our Drainage Group. The preferred location for this position is at our Woodstock office but we will consider applicants for Guelph, Orangeville and Wingham as well.
Drainage engineering work is undertaken in our Woodstock, Wingham, Barrie, Guelph and Orangeville offices. At present, our offices provide drainage engineering and Drainage Superintendent Services to 20+ municipalities.
Burnside has been actively involved in drainage projects since its inception in 1970. The majority of the drainage projects completed are under Section 4 (Petition for new Municipal Drains) and Section 78 (Repair and Improvement of Existing Municipal Drains) of the Drainage Act. Burnside is recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for its depth of qualified personnel actively involved in the drainage industry.
The Role
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist on a variety of projects in a dynamic and flexible role. The entire team is committed to providing the successful candidate with opportunities to gain technical skills and industry knowledge.
Tasks may include, but certainly are not limited to:
- Providing assistance with the preparation of reports under the Drainage Act;
- Conducting Topographic Field Surveys;
- Assisting with designing open and closed drainage systems, preparing cost estimates, performing calculation of allowances and assessments, preparing tender and contract documents,
- Providing construction inspection services; and
- Other duties as required.
Professional Knowledge & Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering; candidates with related co-op experience is an asset;
- A willingness to learn and develop Civil 3D design techniques;
- Familiarity with design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D would be an asset;
- Familiarity with Municipal approval processes would be an asset;
- Superior interpersonal, organization and facilitation skills;
- Excellent communication skills and be comfortable in a team environment;
- A valid Ontario Drivers License and access to a vehicle.
