Combined Metal Industries (CMI for short!) sources and processes recycled ferrous and non-ferrous metals across North America and ensure they do not end up in a landfill or go to waste. Our recycling stream ensures that all the ferrous and non-ferrous metals that enter our yards will create something new again!

We are looking for an Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist who will provide “hands on” support for leadership and employees of CMI on health, safety, and environmental issues. Support and promote the CMI EHS Management System. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workplace
Sound good so far? Here’s what you’ll be responsible for in this role…
· Implement safe working practices and reinforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by CMI and legislation. Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs
· Build and maintain relationships, communicate, and function well as a team member
· Actively coach peers, salaried and hourly employees on expected and acceptable safety behaviors and activities in the yard or on the floor to improve and attain a goal of zero incidents
· Provides hands-on guidance to sites leadership and supervisors regarding incident/accident reporting and investigation to ensure company standards and processes are met and follow up to ensure corrective actions were completed within the due dates established
· Review incidents to ensure Root Cause Analysis and corrective actions are completed to prevent reoccurrences
· Assist in the delivery of CMI’s new hire / returning employee orientation training
· Assist with implementation, review, update, and maintenance of various elements of the CMI HSE Management System and documentation (forms/work instructions)
· Develop, implement, set up and provide required training for all employees on safe work practices, policies, procedures, standards, and reporting related to health, safety and environmental
· Support health and safety initiatives at CMI locations and within CMI departments
· Participate in site JHSC meetings and provide support to members of the JHSC
· Provide advice, assist, and audit sites and sites management to ensure that EHS policies and procedures are implemented and working as intended
· Assist sites with claim management, including submitting WSIB form 7 and provide modified duties forms for injured workers
· Ensure company and site-specific programs, procedures, and reports are developed, implemented, and reported as per the regulatory requirements and in a timely manner.
· Ensure training matrix is up to date, create a monthly training schedule, and support/guide supervisors on providing training
· Monitors legislative changes then assesses and makes recommendations based on their potential impact to the business
· Review HSE related KPI’s in order to target areas of improvement
· Lead and create content for the sites EHS management meetings and participate, develop content, and present in the company wide monthly EHS management meetings

· Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent applicable experience
· 3 – 5 years previous experience in Environmental Health and Safety, preferably in manufacturing environment.
· Knowledge of and ability to read and interpret OHSA and its regulations, CSA standards and other legislative requirements; experience as an ISO auditor considered an asset
· Experience with EHS System Management software is an asset
· Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal) capable to communicate with all levels of the organization
· Strong computer skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
· Customer service oriented, possess tact and judgement in dealing with a diverse group of customers
· Possess the ability to handle multiple priorities and a wide variety of tasks to meet deadlines, all with a sense of urgency
· Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities with the ability to make decisions under pressure in an environment of rapid change
· Superior analytical skills with the ability to identify problems, resolve issues, mitigate risks, and initiate continuous improvements initiatives
· Provide guidance on selecting and sourcing appropriate PPE, prepare schedules of regular vendors, liaison with vendors
· Complete EHS review and approve new materials and equipment.
· Organized, detailed oriented, ability to prioritize task, works with a high degree of accuracy and has a strong work ethic
· Ability and desire to learn and grow in own role and within CMI
· Possess a high sense of initiative; curious and creative!
· Possess problem analysis and solving skills
· Other related EHS project work as required
· Valid Driver's License (will require travel to different sites)
