EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Type of Position: Full-time, permanent
The Asante Centre is looking for a charismatic, forward-thinking, and quality-minded individual with a passion for helping meet the needs of people with FASD to serve as its Executive Director (ED). Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible to lead the administration, programs, and implementation of the strategic plan, as well as fundraising, marketing, community outreach and CARF accreditation.
The ED inspires collective commitment to the vision by providing a strong, supportive direction, always with consideration of inclusiveness and informed by current trends. Strong relational and collaborative skills and a proven track record of successful values-based leadership are key attributes to lead and develop the team of experienced multi-disciplinary professionals.
A strong personal accountability to effectively function as the face of the Asante Centre with internal and external stakeholders is fundamental to successfully delivering on the Centre’s mandate and goals. Through strong advocacy, positive persuasion and tailored communication, the ED effectively delivers public presentations and networks with a diverse array of people including family members living with FASD, funders, partners, clinicians, researchers, and others.
The ability to successfully manage change, growth, and team development is pivotal to success as is a supportive leadership style evidenced by courage, humility, and a focus on positive outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic and Operational Management
- Work with the Board to ensure sustainability and advancement of the Asante Centre’s mission through effective strategic planning and programming.
- Lead the Asante Centre in a manner which supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors, requiring a tolerance for calculated risk to support innovative programming.
Financial Operations Management
- Fundraise and develop other revenues and resources necessary to support the Asante Centre’s mission and financial health.
- Manage the fiscal integrity of the Asante Centre, through discipline and sustainability, by submitting a proposed annual budget and delivery of monthly financial statements to the Board and relevant committees which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
- Lead the fiscal management, generally operating within the approved budget, to ensure maximum resource utilization and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position, reporting variations in the budget as set by the Board in a timely manner.
Program and Service Delivery Management
- Provide overall direction and coordination for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all Asante Centre programs per the mission and vision.
- Oversee and implement appropriate resources to ensure effective and collaborative operations of the organization.
- Oversee and directly approve all agreements and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
Relationship Management
- Represent the Asante Centre in public arenas across BC, nationally, and internationally, as the spokesperson for the organization and collaborate/network with other parties.
- Develop and maintain positive stakeholder and government relations with federal, provincial, and municipal representatives to further the mission and goals of the Asante Centre.
- Lead the hiring and retention efforts of competent and qualified staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High-level strategic thinking and planning, including the ability to envision and convey the organization’s mission and strategic future to donors, volunteers, and the overall community.
- Proven track record of creating and executing on long- and short-term strategic plans.
- Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and evaluation.
- Excellent financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.
- Proven ability to successfully generate new revenue streams and improve financial results.
- Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action and experience working with Indigenous families and communities.
- Strong written and oral communication skills including public speaking ability.
- Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy and enthusiasm.
Experience and Education Requirements
- A master’s degree in social work, psychology, health management, or leadership. A master’s degree is preferred but commensurate experience will be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of direct management experience within a large organization, managing programs and large budgets, preferably in a non-profit organization.
- Previous successful experience establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including government, funders, partner agencies and volunteers.
- Previous experience with fundraising and revenue generation.
- Training/education working with marginalized populations.
- Experience with accreditation process for non-profit agencies.
- Education and/or 3 years’ experience within a field of research is preferred.
- Experience with innovating, developing, and executing new business/program offerings will be given strong consideration.

- Must review and follow all Asante Centre Policies and Procedures and be able to provide direction to staff on policy interpretation.
- Ability to undergo an appropriate criminal / vulnerable sector records check successfully and periodically is required.
- Ability to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status.
