AFMS is a non-profit society with its roots in the community. We are dedicated to promoting local food and helping farmers, artisans and local small businesses grow! We have over 15 years of history of connecting farmers and local craftsmen and artisans with urban consumers, educating the public about how and where their food is produced and raising awareness about sustainable alternatives to the industrial food system.

SUMMARY:

We are looking for a high energy, friendly and customer service focused Market Manager for our market at Ambleside Park. If you have experience in events, nonprofits and building connections with local organizations then we want you! The Market Manager will work with and report to the General Manager.

This is a part-time position consisting of 30 hours a week for nine weeks and then dropping down to 20 hours a week until the end of October. Sundays are mandatory from 7:00am-4:00pm and you are expected to work roughly 20 hours of admin from home.

COMPENSATION

$24/hr

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Weekly tasks:

  • Book vendors using Manage my Market software
  • Communicate with vendors, musicians, volunteers and city officials via email and phone
  • Plan and create events along with other Artisan Market staff
  • Source and manage volunteers to help out at market days and events
  • Manage one assistant- determining tasks needed to be completed throughout the week and during markets
  • Create engaging posts for social media
  • Build a positive and welcoming environment within the community of North Vancouver
  • Source sponsorships and grant opportunities
  • Work closely with the Lonsdale Market Manager, Burnaby Market Manager and General Manager to make sure all markets are operating at the same standards

Market day tasks:

  • Must be first person on site on Sunday market days
  • Facilitate the set up and take down of the market abiding by all rules and regulations set out by the District of West Vancouver
  • Work with Market Assistant to locate and install signage placement for market days
  • Train and direct volunteers for traffic control, info booth and kids activities
  • Direct and assist vendors into appropriate stalls and deal with all comments and concerns in a professional yet timely manner
  • Run the information booth during the market answering all questions from the public and promoting future events and markets
  • Aid in children’s activities/crafts at the Kids Tent.
  • Ensure the market area is safe and no vehicles are attempting to drive through the site
  • Positively represent the Artisan Farmers Market Society to the community
  • Other tasks as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The successful applicant must be 30 years or younger on the date of hiring; hold Canadian citizenship, permanent resident or refugee status and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Enjoy working in a fast paced environment, has a passion for local food, nonprofits, events and enjoys being outside in all weather conditions
  • A people person with excellent communication abilities and enjoys talking with the public
  • Has own phone & computer to work remotely
  • Intermediate computer skills using Google Drive, Manage my Market and internet research
  • Experience working at community events and or event planning and is familiar with the not-for- profit sector
  • Self directed, reliable, responsible, and works collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Can lift up to 20 kg of equipment and can set up multiple 10’ by 10’ tents and equipment
  • Valid drivers license required
  • You have a van/vehicle to carry and assist with farmers market materials

**BONUS POINTS:

You are experienced or have a strong interest in graphic design, photography and creating posts for social media
