Family owned and professionally managed, Westbrook Greenhouses is leading North American grower of indoor potted plants. We are looking for a Financial Controller to lead our Finance team and manage the overall financial operations of the division by providing timely and accurate information, including financial reports, budgeting, forecasting and analysis. Reporting to the President, the Financial Controller will bring a financial perspective to Leadership Team discussions to support making sound business decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements including all supporting reconciliations and schedules;
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements for Westbrook Group holding companies and Westbrook Group consolidated/combined financial statements and shareholder statements;
  • Analyze and present financial results to the President and SLT monthly, providing commentary on variances and following up on any required actions;
  • Collaborate with the President & Management Team to provide accurate monthly cash flow analysis, forecasts, projections (P&L, cash-flow), identifying issues and making recommendations for corrective actions;
  • Maintain KPI (Key Performance Indicator) dashboards monthly;
  • Lead the annual financial planning process and development of departmental budgets by annual budget deadline;
  • Ensure that CRA and bank reporting requirements are met, performing regulatory compliance/reporting including GST/HST, corporate taxes, etc.;
  • Act as primary liaison for external auditors, providing accurate and timely financial information;
  • Analyze production costs and efficiencies, recommending changes as necessary;
  • Perform capital life cycle cost-benefit analysis, including replacement capital;
  • Recommend and implement financial controls, policies, procedures and continuous improvement initiatives to support company business objectives, in line with Westbrook Group expectations;
  • Provide coaching and direction for direct reports (Accountant, A/P Associate, Accounting Administrator, Office Administrator) to maintain a high functioning team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post secondary degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline;
  • CPA designation;
  • 8+ years of hands-on general accounting experience with at least 5 years progressively responsible management experience.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks with an appropriate sense of urgency;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with team members, other departments and external stakeholders;
  • Sound judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential information;
  • Proficiency in MS Office with intermediate-advanced Excel skills.
