Heavy Duty Technician Apprentice Job at Volker Stevin Highways Ltd.
A Heavy-Duty Technician Apprentice is responsible for performing major and minor repairs, overhauls and servicing on all types of heavy-duty equipment and vehicles used at construction sites in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. This position is responsible for repair and maintenance of equipment, hydraulic systems and electrical diagnosis in accordance with company and provincial regulations. Heavy equipment operated at Volker Stevin Highways Ltd. includes, but is not limited to, snowplows, forklifts, front-end loaders, graders, gravel trucks, pup trailers, high/lowboy trailers, electronic message boards, air compressors, etc.
Apprentices must be enrolled in an apprenticeship program and working toward their Provincial License. As an Apprentice Mechanic, you will have access to mentorship and development from a team of strong technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect all equipment to be repaired for defects and malfunctions.
- Operate all equipment to be repaired for testing and movement to and from shop.
- Use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment and other repair tools and equipment.
- Clean, lubricate and maintain all equipment, as scheduled and required.
- Operate hand and power tools in a safe and effective manner.
- Repair and service various equipment attachments.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THIS POSITION WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
- Inter-provincial Heavy-Duty Apprentice Technician certificate.
- Must be enrolled in an approved Apprenticeship Program(1st, 2nd 3rd or 4th year) and actively taking the required courses for Red Seal completion.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a related field.
- Valid Class 5 license; Class 3 with air endorsement (preferred).
- Valid clean driver’s abstract.
- Experience with repair to highway maintenance equipment is an asset.
- Demonstrated abilities in equipment repair and maintenance.
- Must be Computer literate (e.g. equip. diagnostic systems, search equipment repairs, diagnoses, etc.)
