Human Resources Assistant (2 Year Term)

Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Human Resources Assistant performs administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient day-to-day operations of the human resource department. Working closely with the Chief Human Resources Officer, this position deals with confidential employee information, assists with coordinating various recruitment activities and assists with coordinating internal training, staff functions and engagement initiatives. This position also assists with the maintenance of the Human Resources Information system (HRIS), creates and maintains various HR documents (job descriptions, orientation manuals, org charts, etc.), and may be involved in special projects as required.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of three years university, with a major in Human Resources, or working on a Certificate in Human Resources. Must have completed the following courses: Human Resources Management, Business Communications, and Introduction to Computers.

A working knowledge of computer software program including SharePoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Microsoft Outlook is required. An awareness of HRIS – Human Resources Information Systems would be considered an asset. Knowledge of relevant human resources policies, regulations, principles, procedures and legislative provisions governing recruitment, employment equity, compensation and human resource planning is an asset.

The successful candidate must pass and maintain a Criminal Record Check and must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Marine Transportation Security Clearance (MTSC). The Halifax Port Authority has a policy requiring all individuals to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Exemptions may be considered for individuals who cannot be fully vaccinated due to a certified medical contradiction, religion, or any other prohibited ground of discrimination as defined in the Canadian Human Rights Act.
