Halifax Grain Elevator Limited is Atlantic Canada's only grain import and export facility. We handle grain shipments arriving by ship and rail from the Great Lakes and distribute grain throughout Atlantic Canada. We also store and distribute locally produced industrial wood pellets.

We are currently recruiting for the position of Red Seal Industrial Mechanic / Millwright to become an integral member of the overall maintenance and operations team.

The Millwright is responsible for carrying out industrial maintenance duties including scheduled inspections, accurate diagnoses, repairs, installations, and overhauls as well as other duties as required.

This position involves a full time 40-hour workweek from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday-Friday. At times, overtime may be required when ships are being loaded or unloaded. Non-smoking work environment.

The successful candidate will have conveyor belt experience and have experience in an industrial setting. Experience with preforming scheduled inspections of equipment according to a planned maintenance program will be considered an asset. A qualified apprentice with relative work experience will also be considered.

The maintenance staff operates the shipping and receiving equipment and would be expected to learn the skills required to operator the equipment over time.

This is a unionized position and the person hired will become a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1843.

Current pay rate is $31.29 per hour

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Red Seal Ticket or qualified Apprentice
• Ability to become part of the team that runs the elevator and be willing to learn every aspect of what it takes to get the job done.
• Must have an understanding and ability to troubleshoot when a piece of equipment is not operating correctly.
• Rebuild and repair equipment as needed.
• Willingness and ability to practice safe work habits at all times
• Must be able to complete repairs effectively and efficiently
• Self-motivated, hardworking and energetic individual.

• Physically capable of lifting and moving materials
