Junior Aerodynamicist Job at Aiolos Engineering Corporation

Aiolos Engineering Corporation Etobicoke, ON

Aiolos Engineering is an internationally recognized engineering firm that designs and supplies wind tunnels and environmental test facilities to an international clientele. Typical projects include aeronautical wind tunnels, aeroacoustic automotive wind tunnels, climatic automotive wind tunnels and icing wind tunnels. Our client base includes the major automobile manufacturers (e.g. Volvo, BMW), large aerospace companies (e.g. Boeing), automotive OEM’s and government aeronautical testing agencies (e.g. NASA). The contract scope for an Aiolos project ranges from small engineering studies to full turnkey responsibility for a wind tunnel project.

Aiolos requires an aerodynamicist to assist with the aerodynamic and acoustic design of new wind tunnel circuits. This includes the definition of circuit geometry, flow conditioning features and performance prediction. In addition to design responsibilities, the successful candidate will also be involved in the final aerodynamic commissioning of completed wind tunnel projects. This will require relocation to the project site for a 1 to 4 month period.

Candidates for this position must possess a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Engineering. Academic training should include advanced courses in incompressible and compressible fluid dynamics, viscous flows, thermodynamics and acoustics. Some knowledge of computational fluid dynamics is desirable. The successful candidate must also have experimental fluids experience; either through an experimental thesis or through work experience following graduation.

Your main responsibilities will include the following:

  • General aerodynamic design (new wind tunnel circuits including circuit geometry, flow conditioning features and performance prediction).
  • The aerodynamic and process design of wind tunnel subsystems and the preparation of technical specifications where appropriate.
  • Preparation of design reports; checking of design reports prepared by other Engineers in the Process Engineering Group.
  • Model scale wind tunnel tests in support of design activities.
  • Final aerodynamic commissioning of completed projects.

Your first major assignment will be the commissioning of a full scale aeroacoustic automotive wind tunnel in China beginning the summer of 2023.
