Job Overview
The Landscape Laborer is responsible for performing various work tasks (generally physical labor) to assist with the completion of landscape construction projects. The landscape laborer must operate various tools and equipment to perform specified job tasks.
JPL Earthworks is growing, with minimum annual growth of 15%. We’re always investing in our staff and new equipment, are based in Edmonton, and have daily opportunities to create and enrich beautiful outdoor spaces.
Specific responsibilities:
  • Assist in the preparation of job sites before the beginning of a project;
  • Operate various tools and equipment, including chainsaws, jackhammers, laser levels, measurement equipment, shovels, hammers, drills, etc;
  • Assist in constructing walkways, fences, decks, posts, etc;
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting daily inspections, lubricating, and cleaning;
  • Dig ditches or trenches;
  • Perform land-clearing activities;
  • Plant and maintain garden beds and lawns;
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment required for landscape construction projects;
  • Transport materials using shovels, wheelbarrows, carts, dollies, and hand lifting/carrying;
  • Assist foreman with job-related tasks;
  • To perform work activities and read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications;
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent;
  • Minimum one year experience in the landscape/construction industry preferred;
  • Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner;
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written);
  • Time management skills;
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision and as part of a team;
  • Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods & carry out strenuous physical tasks, ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift;
  • Able to get to transport to work sites;
  • Able to lift 100 lbs. without assistance, ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Requires good manual dexterity and excellent stamina are required.

Compensation and benefits
  • $16-25/hour, depending on qualifications and experience;
  • Overtime pay: 1.5x time for any hours greater than 40 worked per week;
  • Support for ongoing training and education.

Schedule:
  • 8 – 10 hour shift - Monday to Friday - some weekends
