The Faculty of Law is housed in the elegant, state-of–the-art Jackman Law Building alongside two historical building, Flavelle House and Falconer Hall, on the St. George Campus in downtown Toronto.
Your opportunity:
The Laws in Action Within Schools (LAWS) program is an innovative and collaborative law-themed high school program aimed at students, facing personal and systemic barriers to success, whoare interested in the law. Founded in 2005, LAWS offers a cross-curricular exposure to legal and justice issues and provides supportive programming designed to encourage students to access postsecondary studies. LAWS is a partnership between the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, and is delivered in the Toronto District School Board high schools.
Under the direction of the Director, LAWS Program, the LAWS Coordinator supports and coordinates program activities and operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Building partner networks with external agencies whose cooperation is important to the University- Leading seminars and/or workshops
- Producing promotional and outreach materials
- Conducting detailed analysis and evaluation to inform program planning activities
- Maintaining information on digital platforms and/or printed materials
- Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
- Directing the work of volunteers in defined activities
- Serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.- Minimum four years directly related experience in an academic, public interest or legal setting
- Experience working with youth in the education sector and/or community outreach programs
- Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating educational workshops
- Experience producing promotional and outreach materials including program newsletters
- Experience training and overseeing volunteers
- Familiarity with current legal issues and trends in the practice of law
- Knowledge and understanding of the legal community and profession
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Strongorganizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage priorities and competing deadlines
- Willingness to work on-site at partner high schools
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Excellent presentation skills
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels including teachers, guidance conuselors, high school students, legal professionals, academics, law students, , alumni, etc.
- Interest in, and commitment to, community outreach and access to justice initiatives
