Accountable to the Plant Manager, the Millwright Mechanic participates as an integral member of the growing media team and performs duties in accordance with the mandate and priorities of Scotts Canada Ltd. Works with the Plant Supervisor/Foremen on day to day issues in the absence of the Plant Manager.

Position Authority:
The Millwright Mechanic makes recommendations to the Plant Manager (or designate) who makes the final decision.
Position Overview:
Millwright Mechanic will be responsible for all aspects of maintenance using a variety of hand, power, pneumatic, and computer diagnostic tools and testing instruments to troubleshoot, maintain, repair and overhaul manufacturing equipment to include specialized systems and components as well as related equipment.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Performs daily routine corrective and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting on various equipment including but not limited to downstream equipment and packaging machines.
- Orientation and ability to follow complex systems with attention to details. Operates under detailed instructions and specifications and requires considerable ingenuity to improvise and adapt when necessary.
- Employ a proactive approach to problem-solving and feel comfortable with various and robotic machinery.
- Maintain an organized, clean and safe production environment based on local regulations and codes including all tools and equipment related with the maintenance department.
- Ensures and enforces that all safety devices are working properly and follows the Health and Safety protocols.
- Completes records and paperwork in a timely manner including preventive maintenance reports and work orders.
- Have positive attitude and strong ability to work under pressure with others in a fast paced and team based environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Carry out any additional duties assigned.
Requisite Qualifications:
- Licensed Millwright Mechanic, with extensive experience in industrial electricity and mechanics in an environment dealing with rotating equipment, power transmission systems, motion control, welding and machining., OR Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Technology, OR Cetrification or Diploma as an Electromechanic, OR extensive experience in industrial electricity and mechanics in an environment dealing with rotating equipment, power transmission systems, motion control, welding and machining.
- 2- 5 Years’ experience working with pneumatic, electrical and mechanical systems.
- Should have strong mechanical and electrical skills.
- Automation skills is a great asset. Forklift and crane experience preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing or transportation industry an asset.
- Basic Microsoft Office and computer skills.
- Strong analytical ability to diagnose and resolve practical issues.
- Able to read and understand schematics, operations, service and safety manuals.
- Strong attention to detail with a strong focus on quality and safety.
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
- Communicate clearly and concisely in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Self-starter to anticipate and resolve needs and requirements.
- Proven ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining safety and quality.
- Respond quickly, calmly and appropriately to emergency situations.
- Strong manual dexterity to use various hand tools and equipment.
- Able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Able to climb, kneel and walk on a regular basis.
- Able to work in all weather conditions, including snow and rain.
- Exposure to high voltage.
- Able to work rotating shifts, including overtime and on-call requirements (Seasonal). Valid G driver’s licence.
