Line Cook Job at Mount Alverno Luxury Resort and Retreat
POSITION PURPOSE:
Our line/prep cooks have a finger on the pulse of current culinary trends. We provide full-service restaurants and catering facilities to deliver an upscale, unique and casual atmosphere. The team is hip, forward thinking and energetic. Our restaurants are a favorite with Caledon residents and tourists alike. The line/prep cooks support the Executive Chef in providing excellent service and quality.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- A cook’s position is designed to support, maintain and execute our standards of quality in food preparation. This position plays a key role in development and attention to health and safety practices.
- Works directly with Executive Chef to review menus, analyzes recipes.
- Observes and participates with food preparation and cooking, size portions, and garnishing of foods to ensure food is prepared in prescribed manner and approved recipes set by the Executive Chef.
- Maintain standard of cleanliness, sanitation and safety as required by the Executive Chef
- Follow and observe all company policies and procedures.
- The Line/Prep Cooks guarantee to keep the standards of the kitchen operations by role modeling and spot-checking.
- Accountable for supporting standards of cleanliness, timing, uniform, grooming, organization, production, food quality, and consistency.

OTHER
- Maintains the Kitchen, storage rooms, and operating equipment in an attractive, sanitary manner according to local & Provincial health regulations, quality assurance and maintenance standards.
- Have a thorough knowledge of all fire and safety procedures and equipment (fire extinguishers) in the event a situation occurs.
- Maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance as per Windermere Hospitality Inc. Standards.
- Attend morning briefing/department head meetings.
- Provide support and leadership to team members in the department and throughout the Hotel.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety and its regulations by:
- Performing workplace inspections
- Conducting information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings, etc.)
- Conducting incident investigations
- Conducting employee training
- Correcting substandard acts or conditions
- Commending employee and supervisor health and safety performance
- Performing employee safety observations.
- Initiates a Health and Safety Continuous Improvement Plan
- Reviews Health and Safety Trends
- Responds to health and safety committee or worker representative recommendations
- Established a program to regularly communicate health and safety information
- Integrates health and safety into all aspects of the organization
- Records health and safety program reviews and changes
- Regularly encourages off-the-job health and safety activities for all workers
- Executive management performs workplace inspections.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 2 years kitchen experience culinary would be an asset. We are in continuous recruitment for recent culinary graduates and or Co-Op culinary students.
- Strong culinary skills in a commercial environment
- Experience in working with fresh seafood
- Comfortable in face to face situations with the Hotel’s Client.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Command of the English language, both written and verbal. Fluency in other languages would be beneficial, should a situation arise that calls for its use.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The environment in the kitchen that the Line Cook works in can become stressful when the restaurants are operating at full capacity. Also, the Line Cook must be capable and comfortable greeting clients on walk a-bouts during service.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Walking and standing required for all times during a shift.
- Most work tasks are performed in the kitchen. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environment.
