Looking for Live-in Caregiver to support an 89 year-old woman on beautiful Saturna Island BC

Client is an intelligent soul who battles depression and dementia. She is a retired Intensive care RN who recently lost her 58 year-old son to ALS. She continues to deal with overwhelming grief and periods of paranoia and anxiety.

Client is a much-loved member of a large family who do their best to support caregiver schedules and needs. 24-hour call availability to family for support. The family visits and helps out regularly.

Personal Care:

• Bathing, grooming and dressing. Client broke her hip and dislocated her shoulder one year ago – she is able to walk short distances with a walker but requires mobility assistance when tired or accessing the bathroom, shower, or bed.
• Taking client on outings in the car.
• General activities that the client enjoys, such as movies, animal spotting, games and sharing photos and stories about her family – Communication is often compromised by short term memory loss, hearing impairment, and anxiety
• Taking trips to the general store and community locations such as beaches

Medical Care:

• Bowel and bladder routine (Client has always been very private and has mild urinary incontinence - handled well with Depends).
• Help with transfers to and from walker, bed, car, etc.
• Medication supervision.
• Application of dressings to any wounds or sores the client may have.

Household Management:

• General household support
• Meal preparation, advanced meal preparation
• Shopping and running errands (Driving license required – car is available)
• Cleaning and tidying the home
• Laundry and bed change

Qualifications:

• Caregiving experience, Professional caregiving training, or nursing qualifications
• Experience caring for patients with dementia
• Must have valid BC Driver's Licence (car not required)
• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
• Effective and patient communicator
• Physically strong to assist in transfers

Hours - 3 to 4 days per week - schedule to be determined

Client rises between 7 am and 8 am and goes to bed around 8:30 pm

Remuneration– $300 to $350 per day plus travel expenses

Accommodation – Private room with shared bath.

Home is on Saturna Island and is extraordinarily beautiful with gorgeous gardens overlooking a harbour. Water access.

Ferry travel to and from the island is covered to a maximum of 4 return trips per month.

Start Date- As soon as possible
