The Manufacturing East (ME) Static Equipment Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing collaborative mechanical engineering services to support Capital and Sustaining projects across the regional ME sites (Corunna, Moore, SCRS). The ME Engineering Team supports the growth, reliability, maintainability, and operability of our assets onsite. This position supports the practices of safe and reliable plant operation.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:
Prepare or assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals
Support and participate on Capital Project Teams in alignment with NOVA’s Project Development and Implementation (PD&I) process
Ensure mechanical and piping design requirements of the NOVA Corporate Engineering and Loss Prevention Standards are met
Ensure compliance with applicable Codes, Standards, and Regulations
Support the interpretation and deviation review for Corporate Engineering Standards
Liaise effectively with vendors, EPC personnel, technical experts, operations & maintenance
In conjunction with other members of the technical team, develop, provide input to and maintain technical work processes
Review new equipment designs to ensure maintenance and reliability issues are considered and addressed
Take a discipline leadership role in the design of capital projects, including the review of work performed by others such as EPC personnel or other design staff
Work collaboratively with our outsourced engineering service providers to ensure quality Engineering Work Packages are delivered to the execution team on time. Field support for the construction process is an important element of project success
Provide in-depth technical expertise and consulting to address Responsible Care® issues within their area of work and/or across their discipline.

What We Are Looking For:
The successful candidate will be a Professional Engineer with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering complimented by 2+ years work experience. The successful candidate will hold a Professional Engineering License (P.Eng.) or be registered as an Engineer-in-Training with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (or equivalent). The candidate in this role will also be required to have:
Applied knowledge of design, repair, and alteration of pressure retaining equipment such as Vessels, Exchangers, Rotating Equipment and Piping Systems
Applied knowledge of Codes, Standards, and Regulations such as CSA, ASME, API, and the TSSA
Demonstrated background in Capital Project Design and Execution
Demonstrated knowledge of the Management of Change (MOC) process and its importance
Ability to work independently and manage own workload with minimal supervision, managing multiple projects and tasks in a dynamic environment
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional groups within the organization
Ability to contribute and be seen as an informal leader
Ability to challenge peers to ensure highest level of performance / quality from team
Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills, willingness to take initiative
Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning & organizational skills

Location:
The NOVA Chemicals Manufacturing East Sites are located near Sarnia, Ontario. The Sarnia Sites focus on the production of ethylene and polyethylene and is recognized as a cornerstone of Ontario’s petrochemical industry.
Sarnia is situated on the south shore of Lake Huron at the headwaters of the St. Clair River, and just an hour from Detroit, Michigan, United States.

Additional Information:
Relocation will be considered for this position
Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
This role requires up to 10% travel
Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
