Job Summary
The Mobility Project Engineer/Planner/Designer plays a senior technical role in our Mobility Planning group to integrate urban design and land use concepts within our mobility planning practice. The role will involve delivering projects that span all areas of mobility planning including master planning, secondary planning, development planning, streetscape/public realm design, public transit planning/design, and the development of urban design / road design guidelines and policy for public and private sector agencies. An expert facilitator, the Mobility Project Engineer/Planner/Designer leads public and stakeholder consultation processes at all levels. A deep understanding of mobility planning and urban design principles including Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) are strongly preferred, as well as a strong understanding of the Environmental Assessment (EA) process and planning acts. This senior position requires an absolute commitment to technical excellence and dedication to the growth of the Mobility Planning group along with our Quality Control / Quality Assurance program at TYLin.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Assist with business development opportunities that may help identify new business, build and maintain key customer relationships and assist with increasing our current market position.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and management of mobility planning and urban design projects with the goal of creating high-quality outputs that will help secure future opportunities.
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals, budgets and schedules for mobility planning and urban design projects.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative opportunities related to mobility and urban design.
  • Assist with the preparation of feasibility studies, functional plans, and preliminary designs for streetscapes, public realm, and community master plans.
  • Communicate with clients and approval agencies to progress projects.
  • Participate and facilitate client progress meetings and public presentations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant land use legislation and issues, as well as the latest urban design best practices.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with assigned clients and regulatory approval officials. Participates with senior management in promotional activities for the company.
  • Provides project status reports on a regular basis and as required.
  • Assumes related responsibilities and projects as assigned or required.
Qualifications
  • University degree in Urban Planning, and/or Transportation Engineering.
  • Professional designation in Urban Planning, and/or Transportation Engineering.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in Urban Planning, and/or Transportation Engineering.
  • Experience in preparing community or transportation master plans, secondary plans, class environmental assessments, transportation and multi-modal impact studies, and other municipal planning studies.
  • Strong computer skills including spreadsheets and specialized software (such as, CCGCALC, HCS, Synchro/Simtraffic, EMME/TransCAD, VISUM-VISSIM), 3D design and rendering software (such as AutoCAD, Sketchup or Blender).
  • Experience in Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) a must.
  • Experience managing and delegating project tasks to team members.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Capable of looking beyond the project scope to see the big picture and be proactive in adjusting projects as needed to better serve client needs.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks independently
  • Capable of working both independently, with minimal supervision, and in a team environment.
  • Strong experience in public-facing communication on behalf of clients.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to prioritize different aspects of a project to enhance the overall output, a focus on quality rather than quantity.
  • Creative and innovative thinker with sound technical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, associates, and clients.
  • Ability to effectively work in fast paced environment.
