Packaging Machine Operator

Job Description

The PMO is accountable for primarily packing raw baby leaf lettuce with some time spent trouble-shooting issues, maintaining line efficiency, minimizing downtime, effective changeovers between products, supporting staff training and assignment. The PMO works to meet or exceed the daily production expectations for the production packaging line while being in compliance with GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) and completing regular IPCs (In-Process Checks) for quality in compliance with the HACCP.

Main Responsibilities

• Operation of all related Machinery
• Clamshell and Box room line setup, Production line setup, visual inspection of equipment, production start-up, product changeovers, record keeping, IPCs (In-Process Checks)
• Verification of labels, weights then metal detector
• Verification of packaged product at start of run with any changes presented to Line Leader
• Set the operating parameters of packaging equipment in accordance with standard operating practices
• Raise issues, problems and/or production irregularities, communicate to and participate in the resolution with Line Leader
• Carry out the minimum maintenance on equipment according to the requested frequency (ex. box printer/sealer)
• Set the operating parameters of box line equipment in accordance with standard operating practices
• Work safely and maintain a clean work environment and wear mandatory protective equipment
• Meet delivery deadlines, quality expectations, anufacturing standards, productivity targets and accurately record all required information during and at the end of the shift
• Participate in providing training to staff in relation to the assigned tasks and co-leadership of all staff on the line
• Communicate with line leader on order progress
• Provide line relief support when needed
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements

• High school diploma
• Relevant experience in a production environment is n asset,
• Experience in production equipment operation, automated systems, machine maintenance or other relevant training is an asset
• Mechanically inclined with excellent manual dexterity
• Able to work in a 4°C environment with allergens present: (dairy, nuts, wheat etc.), climb stairs repeatedly, push heavy loads, bending and lifting (up to a maximum of 50 lbs)
• Detail-oriented to ensure proper completion of paperwork and forms
• Must be a role model to other staff. Exhibit good teamwork, initiative, autonomy, positive attitude, and punctuality
• Excellent communication skills with co-workers and supervisors in English (oral and written)
• Reacts effectively to situations while considering safety, quality, and production expectations
• Knowledge of HACCP standards is an asset
