Job Title: Park and Zoo Program Supervisor

Reports to: Manager Riverview Park & Zoo

Position Overview

This position is a key member of the Riverview Park & Zoo management team who is responsible for supporting the ongoing attainment of the Park and Zoo’s objectives and goals though the administration of the resource development, education, conservation, and volunteer programs.This position also provides budgeting, administrative/supervisory support and relief of operations as needed.


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

Education and Programs

  • Education Program including leading the development of the education plan, assisting with the development of program budgets, and arranging program activities.This includes development, promotion, marketing, scheduling, coordinating and delivery of all programs.
  • Manage classroom resources, newsletters and Riverview Park and Zoo website and social media platforms.
  • Arrange and support the Park and Zoo’s placement program for high school, college and university student placements and internships.
  • Identify, develop, and support the implementation of new conservation initiatives as well as broadening the impact of existing activities.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the volunteer program including volunteer recruitment, orientation/training, placement, supervision, as well as volunteer recognition and retention efforts.

Fundraising

  • Manage the resource development portfolio by researching, recommending, and implementing resource development strategies, programs, goals, and work plans.
  • Fostering strong relationships with donors and sponsors. Preparing and/or contributing to the preparation of complex funding proposals and grant applications to corporations, foundations, government, external associations, and community partners.
  • Research, develop and implement a membership program to support annual/recurring funding goals and foster lasting relationships with our benefactors.
  • Identify, evaluate opportunities to develop new sources of revenue and enhancing the performance of existing revenue streams.
  • Manage gift shop revenue sources.
  • Grow Corporate Sponsorship revenue within all event programs.
  • Lead, create and coordinate annual giving campaigns and fundraising events. Communicate with annual donors to ensure their continued support prior to the start of each year.
  • Ensure all resource development activities and functions are in accordance with legal and ethical standards, including the Canada Revenue Agency Guidance, Fundraising by Registered Charities.

Administrative

  • Maintenance and development of records, correspondence, and relationships
  • Key business user of Perfect Mind Customer Relationship Management (CRM) including software updates, maintain content and coach students and volunteers as required.
  • Coordinate creation of marketing material for the various programs that are offered (Education, donations, volunteers, communication)
  • Maintain volunteer and educational program records and develop ad hoc reports.
  • Manage and update a donor database to track activities and opportunities. Create and administrate donation receipts.
  • Chair Education and Advisory Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Academic and Professional Qualifications:

Advanced (College Diploma, Certificate or Trade) discipline: Diploma in BusinessAdministration or related field

Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) certification is considered an asset

Experience:

  • A minimum of three (3) years developing and delivering education programs.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Fund Development and Donor Relations
  • Fundraising experience in the not-for-profit sector and management of volunteers an asset.
  • Completion of Fund Development Courses and desire to work towards the CFRE an asset.
  • Supervisory experience is considered an asset

Technical Skills:

  • Working knowledge of teaching principles, techniques and methods in the planning and implementation of educational programs.
  • Experience in informal and formal presentations to audiences of varying sizes and demographics.
  • Experience with best-practice sponsorship concepts, including prospecting and proposal writing is required.
  • Strong relationship building skills with diverse groups – individuals, corporate, and volunteers
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of effective and ethical fundraising standards and developing the related and supporting systems, policies, and procedures. Familiarity with fundraising research methods, tools, and procedures.
  • Strong communications skills, both verbal (presentations) and written (proposals)
  • Excellent knowledge of social media sites and highly effective communication skills.
  • Proven ability to function independently and a demonstrated team player with excellent interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to represent the Park & Zoo in a manner appropriate to the values and culture of the organization
  • Work experience in a zoo environment and experience in handling a variety of live animal would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS.
  • xcellent working knowledge and experience using MS Office suite applications.
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance record.
  • Must complete and be clear of a Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid Class G driver’s licence and good driving record.
  • Ability to work outside of regular office hours and be flexible with schedule.
