Payroll Clerk Job at Red Deer Resort & Casino
Red Deer Resort & Casino is looking for highly motivated and experienced Payroll Clerk to join our team on a 6-month contract with a possibility of being permanent. Under the guidance of the Financial Controller, the Payroll Clerk is responsible for but not limited to calculating employee compensation, collecting employee timesheets from department heads, updating our internal payroll database and ensuring timely payments. This position will also be responsible for communicating with various departments regarding concerns in payroll. This position must maintain employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Based on job description includes but is not limited to:
- Collecting and verifying timesheets
- Checks and corrects errors from payroll run
- Enters, verifies, analyzes, audits and maintains employee information
- Entering employee information and payroll data into the system.
- Responding to employee questions about compensation, taxes, benefits, and deductions
- Calculating payable hours, commissions, bonuses, taxes, and deductions
- Process any changes in the employment status, any promotions or employee terminations
- Monthly monitoring of associates’ average hours and identifying eligible associates for Extended Health Benefits and vice versa.
- Monitors statutory holidays, vacation days, and sick days for correct pay-out and accrual
- Prepares yearly T-4 slips, reconciles and distributes
- Prepares and submit accurate Records of Employment to Service Canada
- Verification of employment, as requested
- Strong communication between HR Department regarding Benefits, Commissions, Salary, Promotions and etc.
- Resolving payroll discrepancies, as required
- Maintaining payroll operations by following policies and procedures
- Prepare any reports related to accounting, as required
- Other related duties as required
Education, Qualification and Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of general payroll experience
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is an asset, not required
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Post-secondary education in accounting or equivalent is required
- Able to work independently while still being part of the overall accounting team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel & Outlook) and knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, laws, and reporting requirements
- Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Excellent computer knowledge and skills; ability to adapt to and learn new software
- High level of analytical, critical and logical thinking
- Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines
- Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
- Attention to detail in all areas of work
- Clear Criminal record check will be required upon hire
Work Environment
- This position can involve sitting for long periods.
- The person may encounter problems of eyestrain due to looking at the computer, and if they spend a lot of time typing, there will be a repetitive motion.
- The environment is usually quiet, but it can become very stressful when business operations ramp up.
- It often involves juggling many tasks and helping many people at once.
Hours of Work
- The hours of work for this position are typically Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional hours or hours outside of these timelines may be required due to operational requirements. Any additional hours or overtime must be approved by the Financial Controller prior to being worked.
