Position Summary

Cambrian College’s School of Business, IT, Media, Arts, and Design has an immediate requirement for a Placement Coordinator on a leave replacement basis.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an ongoing employer recruitment campaign that motivates employers to consider Cambrian College’s students for their placement needs.
  • Conduct classroom sessions and workshops to support students with résumé writing, interview techniques, and job search skills; regularly deliver placement information to students one-on-one and in classroom settings.
  • Conduct presentations to indicate the types of positions that may be obtained upon successful completion of Cambrian programs including presentations for students from local high schools.
  • Advise students of placement eligibility requirements and confirm eligibility to employers; confirm all College and Ministry processes and procedures are followed.
  • Work with internal and external partners to ensure that services are aligned and appropriate for students, the College, and the placement host/employer.
  • Administer placements; monitor and support student progress before and during placements; evaluate reports that are submitted by placement students.
  • Attend Advisory Committee meetings and meet with the Dean and faculty to find solutions to problems students may experience during placement; liaise with the Dean, program coordinators and employers.
  • Follow up regularly with employers regarding opportunities, student progress, evaluations, and placement paperwork.
  • Maintain and regularly update student database and existing employer base; maintain marketing of all related mandatory placement programs.
  • Conduct labour market research; identify new business contacts, professional associations, trends, challenges, and opportunities associated with development of jobs for co-op opportunities and graduate employment.
  • Provide reports and data on placement opportunities, students placed, employers, and industry trends to the Dean on a regular basis.
  • Generate new business development; manage and enhance the student and placement site evaluation process utilizing surveys, feedback forms, placement specific reports and site visits.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have a three-year postsecondary diploma, degree, or equivalent preferably in Business Administration, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or Human Services. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application)
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in the job search and career planning process including workshops and presentations in a formal setting as well as personal employment counselling.
  • Must have a solid understand and background of human services, sales, and marketing that centers the promotion of people and their skills in the local, provincial, national and international markets.
  • Excellent research, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise tact and good judgment.
  • Collaborative professional who promotes teamwork and works cohesively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
