We are currently looking for a Power Plant Technician II – (Electrical Technician/Instrumentation Technician) to join our Power Production team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for routine electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work of electrical and control equipment throughout the generating station.
As a Power Plant Technician II:
You will also be responsible for trouble shooting, calibration and installation of instrumentation and monitoring equipment throughout the generating station.
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the plant operates safely, as prescribed in NSPI Operating Practices and the Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations, and within the environmental stipulations prescribed in the Environmental Operating Permit.
Stack climbing and repair work on equipment throughout the generating station and participation in specialized environmental testing routines will also be required. You may be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province.
You will be responsible to assist the Maintenance Supervisor with due-diligence activities, data compilation, and reporting related to the plant's Environmental Management System and environmental performance.
You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills. You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.
**What skills will make you successful?
Candidates must either be a full-time employee recognized as a PPT I (Electrical Technician) by Nova Scotia Power, or you must possess a Certificate in Electrical / Engineering Technology (Power Discipline) with eligibility for membership with TechNova.
In addition, candidates must also be either be a full-time employee recognized as a PPTI (Instrument Technician) by Nova Scotia Power or possess a Diploma in Instrumentation Controls Technology or a Certificate as an Instrument Controls Technician from an accredited program. A certificate as a Red Seal Journeyperson Instrument Controls Technician would be an asset. You must have two years’ experience maintaining electrical equipment as found in a generating station or similar industry. You have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
You must be proficient with troubleshooting electrical / electronic equipment and software use and programming in an industrial setting. You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, have a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands. Applicants will be required to demonstrate acceptable color vision for operation of control monitoring equipment.
If no qualified candidates apply, consideration will be given to applicants who are full time employee recognized as a PPT I (Electrical Technician) by Nova Scotia Power or possess a Certificate in Electrical/ Engineering Technology (Power Discipline) with eligibility for membership with TechNova and are willing to enroll in an Instrumentation Technician apprenticeship program. You will be considered a PPTI until certification as an Instrumentation Technician is achieved within a specific timeframe.
