The School of Community, Wellness and Health at Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) is currently inviting applications for
3 full-time Probationary Continuous Instructors in the Practical Nurse (PN) program
, commencing August 16, 2023.

Travel and related expenses will be reimbursed according to the
Travel and Related Expenses policy.
Faculty may be assigned instructional workload that requires travel to urban and rural locations in addition to teaching on the RDP campus. RDP’s PN Program has multiple intakes and includes day, evening, and weekend clinical, lab, and theory instruction with the program running twelve months a year. Faculty may be assigned to instructional workload as required to support program needs.
The Practical Nurse program is a two-year diploma that prepares students to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) following graduation and successful completion of the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam. It is an approved program by the CLPNA’s Education Standards Advisory Committee.
The Practical Nurse program provides exceptional opportunities to work closely with students, faculty and staff in a supportive environment that promotes innovation, scholarship, and commitment to student success. RDP offers an excellent professional development program that helps faculty to continuously develop skills, knowledge, and expertise specific to teaching and learning as well as their respective discipline.
Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):
- Teaching students in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings with flexibility for face-to-face, hy-flex or online course delivery.
- Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment.
- Preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material.
- Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work.
- Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students.
- Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum development & review, project work, and scholarly activity.
- Participating in School and Polytechnic-wide initiatives and/or committees.
- Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP, which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy.
- Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.
- Maintains current with changes in best practice and adapts facilitation as required
- Strong understanding of the role and scope of the Licensed Practical Nurse in Alberta

Required Qualifications
- RN with a BScN degree; or LPN diploma with a health care related degree
- Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) or the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA)
- A minimum of five years nursing experience
- Recent clinical / practical experience
- Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success
- Ability to work effectively in a variety of team environments
- Proven commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice
- Experience teaching in a post-secondary environment
- Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support Provider or Recertification Certificate (HSF-BLS Provider)
- Driver’s License
