Project Engineer - Onsite Job at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories

What will you be doing!
- Acting as the owner’s bridge between engineering and construction by ensuring front end work is complete and acceptable to proceed into the field and that lessons learned from the field are incorporated into future engineering work
- Being responsible for various aspects including front end planning, work package reviews, submittal coordination, work readiness, and oversight of executed work related to various areas in the project.
- Providing expertise to assist the remedial execution team in the implementation of their scopes of work, including essential duties of the position.
- Assisting the Remediation Manager and Team Lead in implementing the various aspects of the PHAI Project, leading the remediation of LLRW contaminated sites in the Port Hope area
- Proactively recognizing and encouraging positive workplace Occupational Health and Safety practices and compliance to program and legislative requirements by project personnel and contractors by completing in-field observations.
- Ensuring the engineering contractor is following the requirements of the design and quality management programs in the development of Engineering Work Packages.
- Serving as the Project Quality Officer in regards to technical acceptability of engineering solutions and deliverables and identify areas for improvements.
- Other duties as assigned by one’s manager.
Do you have the following knowledge?
- Utilizing engineering tracking documentation to support project work including budget setup, project updates, budget reviews and forecasts.
- Completing contract closeout reports for contractor's performance.
- Engineering procedures and practices, organization and quality processes.
- A good understanding of highly-regulated environments, compliance program requirements (e.g. radiation protection) and knowledge of design-build and EPC procurement practices is an asset.
- Project management principles (scope, schedule, time, quality, risk) and hands-on experience in the management of engineering activities.
- Technical background or demonstrated understanding of engineering and/or construction contracts.
- Proficiency in MS Office (e.g., WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS, MS PROJECT, VISIO, OUTLOOK, etc.) and CAD applications.
What we are looking for!
- Someone who has energy coupled with a high level of creative thinking and the smarts to back it up!
- A university degree in civil, environmental, geotechnical or structural engineering.
- 10+ years of experience managing projects and contracts, with at least 3 years on construction, remediation contracts and/or environmental consulting.
- Registration or eligibility for Project Management Professional Certification, is desirable.
- Must hold a valid license as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineer Ontario (PEO) or the equivalent credential issued by a recognized regulatory body of a province or territory.
- If you can supplement your education and experience further because you have worked on remediation projects and/or design projects in a municipal environment that is even better!
