JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG) is looking for an engaging, dynamic, and results-driven learning and development professional to join our Renewable Generation team in the role of Project Leader. This position is located out of our Thunder Bay location.

Reporting to the Senior Project Management ENG/Officer, the Project Leader is accountable for the execution of assigned projects or tasks within OPG Renewable Generation. This includes leading and administering the organization, coordination and execution of assigned project(s) within multidiscipline project portfolios. Leading matrix project execution teams, coordinating and be responsible for project documentation as well as ensuring appropriate Project Management and Contract Management governance is followed.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Undertake the organizing, coordinating and controlling of all stages of Project Management in accordance with Project Management governance in all project phases from initiation to closeout
  • Perform all necessary project management activities throughout the lifecycle of assigned projects, ensuring all project objectives and commitments are achieved within targets of safety, quality, budget and schedule.
  • Develop scopes of work , estimates, schedules, risk management plans, project management plans, gate packages, and contract specifications.
  • Develop Business Cases for project funding requests and present to senior leadership as required
  • Manage, monitor, evaluate, and report project cost, schedule, and risks.
  • Gather input from internal and external stakeholders to ensure project requirements are captured
  • Arrange for all necessary approvals, licenses, permits or clearances required.
  • Co-ordinate and prepare contract specifications for engineering, material, and construction services.
  • Develop bid packages, evaluation of tenders, and purchasing recommendations.
  • Provide Contract Management and Administration functions during the construction phase of projects.
  • Manage and maintain communication with internal and external stakeholders,
  • Visit various site locations across the Northwest, as well as manufacturers, and supplier’s facilities as required.

EDUCATION
  • Requires a knowledge of project management principles, specifically the 5 primary project phases (Identification, Initiation, Definition, Execution, Closeout).
  • Requires a knowledge of economics and business principles as well as a background in a technical field, specifically in an industrial or technical/engineering environment. This level of knowledge is normally acquired by successful completion of a 4 year university degree in an appropriate area field of study, with a preference of an engineering degree, or a combination of post- secondary education plus courses, training, or equivalent experience in project management.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in project management or similarly related field
  • Experience managing or completing projects of varying complexity up to $20M in total value
  • Experience developing or defining project scope and technical requirements
  • Experience developing project budgets, estimates as well as tracking and managing costs
  • Knowledge of cost accounting and forecasting and budget tracking as it relates to project management
  • Experience with commercial contracting methods and evaluating and establishing contracts
  • Problem solving and providing guidance and leadership to teams
  • Experience working within a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Knowledge of construction methods, codes/standards, quality assurance/control, environmental and health and safety around construction projects
  • Familiarity with Generating Stations is considered an asset
  • P.Eng and PMP designations are considered assets
  • Preference to individuals with an electrical background
