Camp Tamarack is a private co-ed overnight camp, established in 1981. Tamarack is located on a beautiful lake front property in Muskoka. It operates a seven-week camp program for up to 300 children and employs in excess of 100 staff members. Tamarack’s program is designed to provide varied sports and arts programs for children ages 7-14 years and a leadership training experience for 15 to 16 years olds. Campers have an opportunity to learn about and participate in diverse activities including water-based activities (skiing, wake, canoeing, sailing, outdoor recreation), land sports activities (baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, soccer, hockey, ropes, rock climbing, gymnastics), and arts based activities (theatre, dance, music, multi media, photography, ceramics, art, cooking). The Camp’s mission is to provide a nurturing environment and to foster friendships and memories. We also seek to challenge and assist campers and staff in developing skills, as well as assisting each camper and staff in achieving personal goals, and building confidence and self-esteem.

Job description

Camp Tamarack is a private overnight camp. Tamarack is located on a private lake in Muskoka and is seeking an RN or RPN to work in the camp Health Centre. The Health Centre is fully equipped with medical supplies, exam room, 11 beds, washroom etc. The camp also has an outdoor triage centre to maximize the outdoor space.

Camp Nursing is a rewarding opportunity to care for others in a non-traditional setting. Working in a camp environment provides a fun, challenging experience and opportunities for growth and leadership.

Camper population: 200-300

campers ages 7 – 16, plus 125 staff members.

This is a summer position that offers two week blocks during these dates: June 23– August 18, 2022. Preference for nurses who can work more than one block in a row.

We are an Ontario Accredited Camp(OCA) and are working closely with the OCA, other partner agencies and our team of medical professionals to ensure all Covid policies and protocols are applicable

Accommodations (private room with bathroom and shower) and meals are provided (dining hall setting) The health centre team includes 1 rotating Doctor, 2 Full time Nurses (that may have to also be rotating but a full summer is available) and 2 full time nursing students or health care providers.

The RN or RPN will be responsible for the administration of health and safety needs of the campers and staff.

The applicant should be flexible and able to adapt to different environments and schedules.

They should be responsible, hard-working with a good bedside manner appropriate to the youth setting (friendly and personable).

Strong assessment abilities will be considered.

Prior experience with children is an asset.

Responsibilities include: General assessment and evaluation of unwell patients to provide first aid to emergency care Triaging and assessment of campers and staff for any COVID-19 symptoms Dispensing medication and on-line medical record keeping Communicating with parents in a professional and timely manner Communicating specific camper health needs (allergies, special diets) to staff General Cleaning

Education: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent
