ABOUT THE ROLE
We are growing our TransAlta team in Calgary, Alberta! We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and personable individual to join our Canadian Growth group.
This position is an integral player on the Canadian Growth team and will interact internally with corporate groups such as: Land, Insurance, Accounting, Construction, and Legal.
This permanent full-time salaried position. This role is based out of our Head Office in Downtown Calgary, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As the Resource Analyst, Canadian Growth, you will:
- Perform wind/solar long-term resource/production evaluations (frequency and time domain) on TransAlta’s Canadian projects
- Maintain TransAlta’s wind data and solar data databases
- Complete QA/QC of TransAlta’s resource measurement data
- Support the development of an in-house wind/solar resource analysis program
- Conduct production uncertainty analyses
- Prepare climatic condition summaries for wind and solar projects
- Assist the development team with project development activities for renewable energy projects
- Assist in the preparation of bid packages
- Evaluate renewable energy technologies for best economics and the performance of operational wind farms
- Design turbine layouts to optimize for lowest cost of energy and project risk
- Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- Five or more years of direct experience in Wind and Solar resource analysis
- A bachelor’s degree in: physics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, meteorology or other appropriate technical discipline
- Strong programing skills in Python
- Understanding of renewable project development
- Solid statistical background, fundamentals, and understanding
- Solid understanding of industry guidelines for resource evaluation, resource measurement design, and trends in the industry
- Good understanding of third-party expertise and techniques for resource analysis
- Exceptional analytical skills using spreadsheets and plant performance evaluation software, processes, and programs to manipulate large amounts of data and develop tools and procedures for data quality assurance
- Expert in specialized software for resource evaluation modeling (Windographer, OpenWind, WAsP, WindPRO, PVSyst, ArcGIS, etc.) as well as skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Demonstrated knowledge of wind plant equipment and its performance
- Ability to improvise and deliver innovative solutions in the face of conflicting project requirements
Nice to Haves
The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:
- A basic understanding of wind project economics and optimization
- Knowledgeable in many technologies including solar plants, battery energy storage systems and all types of renewables
