Security Guard Job at Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited

Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited Ottawa, ON

As a Security Agent at CBN you will be tasked with protecting employees, our assets and the integrity of our secure facilities. You will achieve this by manning an Integrated Security Operations Center (ISOC) and effectively operating and troubleshooting the internal/external security and life-safety systems and identifying and addressing threats to the security of employees and operations.

Success in the role will require you to draw upon your 2+ years of experience in a security role along with the knowledge and skills that you developed in your previously held positions. Keen powers of observation will provide the basis of success in this role – you are the kind of person that looks for and notices when things are outside the norm. Your well-developed interpersonal and communication skills will help you build trust and cultivate relationships with your co-workers, and your self-control and discipline will ensure that you stay calm under pressure. Our internal systems are highly computerized; you will, therefore, also possess basic computer skills and a degree of technical savvy that will allow you to troubleshoot minor system issues.

The current rate of pay as per the Collective bargaining agreement is $26.77/hour. All new employees are subject to a one (1) year probationary period at 80% of the full rate which equals $21.42/hour.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Control access to and movement of personnel (employees, visitors, contractors) within the building via a computerized access control system and ensure that no one is granted access to zones for which they are not authorized.
  • Perform regular internal/external building security patrols and monitor security cameras to ensure that mandated security and health and safety procedures are being adhered to across the building and grounds. Investigate identified security and health and safety threats building maintenance issues, communicate them to the ISOC and report them to management.
  • Act as a first responder and react quickly and effectively to emergency situations (fire, flood, chemical, medical, criminal, etc.) by initiating and following established emergency management plans to protect and preserve life, assets and the facility.
  • Ensure the security of our facility and assets by monitoring incoming/outgoing deliveries and shipments. Visually inspect personnel’s purses, bags, toolboxes, etc., on departure from the facility to ensure no unauthorized material is removed.
  • Prepare and submit incident/occurrence reports for security and health and safety-related incidents and communicate and escalate accordingly. Complete daily shift reports and maintain a notebook of your recorded observations regarding potential security or health and safety related threats pertaining to facility issues or personnel behaviours.

There are a few mandatory requirements for the position – you must possess a valid Ontario Security Guard license, be First Aid/CPR/AED certified, possess a valid Driver’s License, and be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule that includes days, evenings and nights. Eligibility for GoC Secret Level (II) clearance is also required.
