Your Opportunity:
The Senior Consultant, Provincial Medical Affairs is a professional role in the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Portfolio. The position is responsible and accountable for planning, development, organization, and delivery of projects that support effective integration of AHS Medical Affairs and medical staff-related strategies, within or between zones and as appropriate, between other AHS portfolios (HR, IT, Finance, etc). This includes development of provincial guidelines, standards, policies, strategy, and processes to enhance consistency, transparency, perceived fairness, flexibility, and ease of administration. Projects will typically be within the realms of: physician workforce planning/recruitment; physician appointment, privileging and credentialing; Medical Affairs organizational structures; supports for academic medicine; clinical coverage programs; clinical and administrative physician role design/service model planning with associated contracts and compensation strategy; frameworks related to Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules; etc.
Description:
The Senior Consultant must maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders in order to provide project leadership to and oversee all related programs and services. The role commonly interacts internally within Medical Affairs with: Zone Medical Directors; Zone Directors of Medical Affairs; Associate Chief Medical Officers; Senior Program Officer – Office of the Chief Medical Officer; Chief Medical Officer. External to the Medical Affairs portfolio, the Senior Consultant role commonly works internally to AHS with other directors and senior management and externally with staff from each of the Alberta Medical Association, College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, Alberta Health and the two Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry in the province. The specific content area assigned to a particular Senior Consultant’s portfolio will vary from individual to individual and potentially from time to time. The core responsibilities of the role however are consistent between individuals and over time.

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline. Minimum 5 years’ of education related experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.

Graduate degree with 5 years applicable experience (ideally an MBA, MHSA or equivalent) or a bachelor’s degree and 10 or more years experience. Change Management Certification (Prosci or equivalent).
