The successful candidate will possess strong electrical design skill coupled with senior team leader skillset. In addition, this person ideally would have experience in controls department production management. TS recognizes that these are two unique skillsets and would like candidates with strengths in either or both to apply. This position/candidate will work within our engineering design office in Lindsay, Ontario. The area of design includes a wide range of projects related to Bulk Material Handling Projects and/or Sawmill and Lumber Handling Machinery.

Key Duties Include*
Senior Electrical System Designer:

  • Electrical design, detailing, generating complete electrical/controls drawing packages, bill of materials, and support plant and onsite electricians.
  • Detailed design and CAD design completely or to support other designers/detailers in the department. Excellent and demonstrable skills utilizing AutoCAD Electrical is required.
  • Design/specification of electrical circuits/components and materials, technical selection, sizing and evaluation of equipment and parts.
  • Review drawings and provide installation/assembly technical support.
  • Participate in Pre/Post-Design reviews.
  • Experience with Robotic electrical and controls systems and safety systems is preferred.
  • Understanding of Soft Starts, VFD’s, Servos, Digital/Analogue Field Devices and IO, Specialty Sensors and Scanners, Actuators, Motors, Encoders etc.
  • Provide onsite project support when required. (International travel) - (travel will be required on occasion)
  • Customer technical support for new and existing installations.

Controls Department Production Management:

  • As a senior role, the candidate will oversee segments of the engineering controls department and plant production within the electrical department.
  • The candidate will meet daily with the engineering controls department and plant production electrical department to ensure inventory, components and the build are on time.
  • Must be able to resolve issues quickly and efficiently. This includes the ability and product knowledge to substitute supplier components due to global supply chain issues.
  • Continually review components on order, inventory, and ETAs to ensure delivery of products as promised.
  • Participate in meetings with Customers, Project Managers, Engineering Managers and Purchasers.
  • Provide onsite project support when required. (International travel) - (travel will be required on occasion)
  • Customer technical support for new and existing installations.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 year -Dip. Eng. Technology – Electro-Mechanical or Electronics Technology
  • 5 years Minimum industrial electrical and controls systems design experience.
  • Good comprehension of PLC's, programming and related hardware within the Rockwell Architecture is preferred. (Allen Bradley Products preferred).
  • Working experience in automation or electrical design is required.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team (both internal and remote), including mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation, CAD support, purchasing, shipping, and receiving etc.
  • Solid knowledge of electrical field devices. – sensors of various types, encoders, scanners, etc.
  • Good understanding of motor control, servos and VFDs.
  • Fully versed in Autodesk AutoCAD Electrical 2019 or later, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work extra hours to ensure a successful project when required.
  • Self-motivated, driven individual with good problem-solving skills.
  • Working experience and understanding of industrial mechanical systems is a significant asset.
  • Organized, self-regulated and excellent time management skills required.
