What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

  • provide expert, strategic advice to senior management and staff on complex, time-sensitive projects, programs and issues associated with the freight and passenger transportation services in northern Ontario
  • contribute to the ministry's corporate planning and budget allocation processes
  • develop, coordinate, and evaluate policy/options papers, briefing materials, reports and analysis
  • lead, coordinate and participate on social policy/developmental services forums/working groups to discuss research and exchange information
  • develop partnerships and consult with stakeholders on northern transportation issues
  • prepare and present specialized briefings and advice on options and recommendations to Ministry senior executives for decision-making purposes

How do I qualify?

Policy and Program Expertise

  • You have demonstrated knowledge of policy and program principles, techniques and processes and the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of government and ministry decision making processes.
  • You have knowledge of financial management and budget procedures to assist in preparing branch budget and to control budget allocations.
  • You have knowledge of provincial strategic directions with respect to northern Ontario's legislation and regulatory structures related to northern Ontario transportation.

Project Management Skills

  • You have demonstrated project planning and management skills to coordinate studies and manage complex projects within timelines.
  • You are able to estimate and manage resources and control budget expenditures.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • You have demonstrated communication and presentation skills to provide and exchange information, make presentations, chair meetings and communicate with clients to resolve problems.
  • You can facilitate and represent the ministry on intergovernmental workgroups and committees.
  • You can prepare reports, briefing notes, correspondence, and presentations.

Consultative and Partnership Building Skills

  • You have consultative, partnership building and relationship management skills.
  • You can build and maintain effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to support policy and program initiatives.

Research, Analytical, and Problem-Solving Skills

  • You have excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills to conduct specialized research, evaluate policy submissions and provide recommendations for management decision-making and policy framework.
