About the Opportunity:
Cartel’s Engineering department is responsible for the engineering design and development of communications systems solutions to meet the customer’s requirements, needs, and objectives. We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in Langley, BC or Toronto, ON.
The individual will have a leading role in managing engineering deliverables during the bid and/or execution phases of the assigned project. He/she will utilize a solid combination of technical and managerial foundations and experience to lead the engineering effort and achieve the program objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive technical activities for bids and/or projects, including managing technical milestones, providing technical direction for the system design, and ensuring solutions meets the needs of the customer.
- Able to convert customer/contract statement of need into conceptual designs
- Lead the development of the detailed design with the purpose of analysing, evaluating, and verifying compliance of the final design against the requirements.
- Performs technical/engineering tasks to produce technical deliverables, including trade-off studies, design reports, technical drawings, and commissioning documents.
- Presents technical design proposals and reports to customers and/or other engineering management groups in clear, complete, and non-ambiguous terms.
- Execute work per system engineering principles including developing system design overview and detailed design, developing interface control documents, and planning integration and commissioning of the subsystem.
- Support the bid and/or project management team in reviewing and validating technical estimates, developing the project schedule, and ensuring technical delivery to cost and schedule.
- Supervises the bid and/or project design team, including defining work, coaching, monitoring progress, and directing priorities.
- Provides educational and general technical support and acts as a technical advisor to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the quality of work in accordance with Cartel’s Quality Management System and project requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by defining and improving engineering processes and workflows
Key Qualifications
- Post-Secondary education in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline, specializing in telecommunications systems and/or network.
- Minimum five (5) years experience in leading design and integration activities for complex projects, including experience in requirements analysis, and comfortable guiding a team of technical specialists with work activities.
- Minimum seven (7) years hands-on experience in systems engineering (complete lifecycle) within networking, wired, and/or wireless telecommunication disciplines.
- Minimum seven (7) years producing detailed design documentation in the form of studies, reports, and drawings.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including technical writing skills;
- Strong ability in MS Office toolset (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Visio) and computer-aided design software (AutoCAD);
- Ability to lead discussions with senior/junior project staff, customer, and suppliers; and
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a keen eye for detail and process.
Desirable Qualifications
- Working knowledge of codes and standards applicable to rail transit projects such as EN 50126, EN 50121, NFPA 130, etc.
- Experience with Canada transit/transportation industry is an advantage.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) eligibility.
