We are seeking a Sr. Project Manager/Estimator for our Lethbridge & southern Alberta region, whose high attention to detail will manage the various aspects of construction project activities, coordinating with Superintendents, Project Management teams, clients and vendors. Reporting to the General Manager, the Project Manager will support Whissell’s vision, mission, S.P.I.R.I.T of values, and three daily pillars of safety, quality, and efficiency. This role is based out of the Lethbridge office and has responsibilities across the southern Alberta region. There is a requirement for travel across the region and applicants should expect 40-50% of time will be outside of Lethbridge.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Be responsible for the production and cost-reporting analysis
  • Develop, monitor, update and communicate the project progress schedule
  • Review the project schedules with the Regional Operations Manager and Superintendents
  • Review, authorize and approve payment of vendor and subcontractor invoices
  • Review daily job site reports
  • Ensure safety policies and safe work practices are implemented at the project
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with all project stakeholders
  • Have a working knowledge of the duties of the Superintendents and Foreman and assist as required
  • Change order management and tracking
  • Conduct all meetings with the Owner and subcontractors
  • Prepare and submit the Subcontract Agreements and Material Supply Agreements to the Vendor and review returned executed Subcontract Agreements for accuracy
  • Compile Job Projection Cost Reports for Whissell management
  • Compile productivity factors from field reporting and compare actual to expected production factors
  • Compile and track quantities and costs; document plan revisions, change notices, change orders, and all other paperwork required on the project
  • Comply with Whissell and local Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Oversee all permits required by the project
  • Maintain and foster a clean and organized work environment
  • Manage subcontractors
  • Estimate civil earthworks and underground projects
  • Evaluate multiple sub-trade execution, strategies, and estimates
  • Be accountable for sub-trade strategies and estimates
  • Accountable for the entire proposal package submission
  • Accountability for the overall construction plan, including schedule, concept, budget, procurement, and risk assessment
  • Prepares and maintains the status of plans
  • Produce bid package that include labor and equipment budgets, material suppliers, subcontractors, tender specifications, and contracts
  • Accountability to update the database and costing system with project data to ensure cost is current
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates and submit tender packages
  • Conduct tender review meeting to review scope, productions, construction approach, competitive landscape, schedule, and set markup

IS THIS YOU?

  • 10+ years related to Earthworks and civil construction experience. Other combinations of experience and education may be considered
  • P.Eng or CET is preferred
  • Experience reading and understanding blueprints, specifications, schedules and costing reports is required
  • Thorough understanding of construction process, environmental regulations and safety practices is required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience using B2W software is an asset
  • Previous leadership or manager experience is an asset
