JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
managing issues related to community relations, public relations, public consultation,
communications, and public affairs.
This position requires agility and a wide-ranging communications skillset including, but not limited
to, the ability to: manage challenging issues on a daily basis; manage emergency public
communications; navigate difficult situations involving various stakeholder groups and
organizations; as well as develop and implement communications and stakeholder engagement
programs in support of high complexity, high profile capital projects and associated regulatory
requirements.
The successful candidate will:
- Engage with, build and maintain relationships with local/regional government elected officials
- Manage a wide variety of often unpredictable BC Hydro-related issues.
- Design and manage consultation, communications and engagement processes, working closely
- Develop and maintain strong internal networks and alignment with departments across the
- Ensure linkage and co-ordination with BC Hydro First Nations' programs and with other internal
- Act as a facilitator of high profile, sensitive and complex meetings or consultations on behalf of
- Develop and advise on methods to incorporate stakeholder input into BC Hydro's capital projects
- Pitch stories to and conduct interviews with local media on behalf of BC Hydro. Represent BC
- Have knowledge of the BC Hydro system in the southern interior and the Upper Columbia.
- Demonstrate BC Hydro’s values at all times.
- University degree, graduate certification or equivalent in a relevant discipline (i.e. journalism,

- Experience developing and implementing communications and stakeholder engagement
- Experience supporting high profile and complex capital projects and regulatory requirements.
- Highly agile, collaborative, innovative and resourceful individual with a focus on exceptional
- Strong writing skills and critical thinking are essential for this position.
- Superior interpersonal and listening skills with the ability to understand internal and external
- Strong engagement, communications and public speaking skills, including an ability to take
- Demonstrated ability to establish credibility, build awareness and resolve conflict.
- Ability to prepare concise reports and lead in-person and virtual public meetings.
- Strategic thinker with ability to develop, implement and manage a project engagement plan.
- Experience working with or in media a strong asset.
- Commitment to continuous learning, the confidence to challenge the status quo and the ability to

- Regular travel during all seasons is required within the southern interior of BC and occasionally

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home
based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for
each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time
from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.
IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
