Exciting opportunity to join the Mine Audits and Strategic Services team!

The Mines Health, Safety and Enforcement Division (MHSE) provides oversight of the mineral exploration and mining sector during all stages of mine projects. The division includes: the Office of the Chief Inspector of Mines; the Mine Audits and Strategic Services Branch; the Abandoned Mines Branch; the Regulatory Management and Enforcement Branch; and the Code Review Secretariat, which supports the ongoing work of the Code Review Committee.

The Mine Audits and Strategic Services Branch (MASS) within MHSE, provides cross-divisional leadership and delivery of the key mining-related continuous improvement program areas for the Ministry: delivering the mine audits program under the authority of the Chief Auditor; leading the development and overseeing implementation of Government’s responses to Chief Auditor recommendations; developing and maintaining the Ministry’s digital tools including CORE (internal mine information portal), Mines Space (external proponent data portal) and the BC Mine Information Website (public facing mine information portal); and developing and implementing the mines data management and reporting program. MASS also provides leadership and support on corporate and other strategic initiatives for MHSE.

Working with other members of the MASS team, this position participates in audits set out in the Chief Auditor’s Audit Plan including developing comprehensive, public audit reports with recommendations to senior decision-makers.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • A degree in social sciences, law, public administration, business administration, natural resource management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three years of related experience, where related experience includes each of the following:
    • Experience conducting detailed research and analysis related to government programs.
    • Experience developing briefing materials and making recommendations to management/executive.
    • Experience concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content for diverse audiences.
    • Experience planning and coordinating complex projects/assignments.
    • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and/or interested parties (e.g., government staff, industry, non-governmental organizations) on complex issues.
    • Experience collaborating in a team-based setting.
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.


Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • A Master’s degree in social sciences, law, public administration, business administration, natural resource management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in performance auditing.
  • Experience in interpreting legislation, regulations, and/or policies related to the regulation of the natural resource sector or heavy industries in B.C.
