What do you offer?
The Housing Support Office operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week, and provides programs and services for those with Affordable / Social Housing needs. Over 2000 individuals take part in programs including Supportive Housing, Family Shelter, Transitional Housing for youth and women, counseling, and referral.
The Team Supervisors (one evening, 1 weekend part-time) will support the Director of the Housing Support Office in managing the day-to-day operations of the Housing Support Office and help lead the Housing Services team in providing excellent service delivery. The Team Supervisors will work with the Director and Senior Director to achieve strategic goals in the fulfillment of the mission of the National Capital Region YMCA.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a personal commitment to and understanding of the Y’s mission, vision, values, and participant outcomes.
Some of the tasks of this position include:
- In conjunction with the Director of the Housing Support Office, the Team Supervisors will participate in the recruitment and training of all Housing Office Staff and provide supervision and evaluation of staff as per Y Personnel Policy
- Ensure adequate levels of scheduled staff coverage to meet program and contractual requirements
- Provide leadership to the HSO team to ensure effective service delivery and attainment of operating and licensing standards
- Monitor standards for reporting and operating procedures
- Provide information and pertinent statistics to the Senior/ Director for the purposes of evaluations and reporting
- Prepare reports as required
- Assist in the development of appropriate programs and procedures to ensure excellent client service delivery
- Assist in the development of proposals and budgets as required
- Ensure effective and efficient use of the resources
- Actively network and liaise with community agencies and service partners
- The Housing Team Supervisors are in frequent and direct contact with Staff, Volunteers, program participants, City of Ottawa Offsite Services, and Community Partner agencies
- The Housing Team Supervisors are tasked with sharing knowledge and instruction in a way that motivates others
What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:
Education
- College or University degree in a related field
Language
- Fluency in both English and French, oral and written preferred, mandatory for the full-time position and as an asset for the part-time
- Other languages an asset
Experience, Abilities & Skills
- Minimum of three years experience, in the housing field, preferred, emergency housing in particular
- Experience in a supervisory role preferred
- Knowledge, understanding, and experience in working with a vulnerable population
- Extensive knowledge of community resources
- Strong Computer Proficiency
- Demonstrates leadership and excellent communication skills
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability to communicate Y values and mission
- Ability to work with clients with diverse needs, backgrounds, and skills
- This position has a strong client focus and service orientation
Additional Requirements
- Applicant must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
- Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required
- Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons and submit the certificate of completion.
