As part of the Airport Facilities team, the Trades Helper position will provide assistance as assigned by the Supervisor Facilities, to the various Trades within the Facilities Maintenance & Building Services section, which includes the Electrical, Building Mechanical and Structural, at the Saskatoon Airport. The position will report directly to the Supervisor Facilities.

Specific Responsibilities

Employee will assist skilled trades people with the completion of tasks / repairs as assigned by the Supervisor, such as:

  • Assist Building Technicians, Electricians and other departments when required.
  • Replace light bulbs as needed.
  • Complete minor repairs in the building such as painting, replacing ceiling tiles, minor equipment repairs, door maintenance, overhead door maintenance, lock installations and repairs, carpet repairs, etc.
  • Run errands as required.
  • Assist outside contractors when required.
  • Keep mechanical rooms clean and tidy.
  • Outside grounds maintenance.
  • Report safety hazards or maintenance problems to supervisor immediately.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends if required.

This position description describes the duties in a general sense. However, general or otherwise, this description does not preclude other related duties being assigned from time to time, in the achievement of the SAA Business Plan and as organizational priorities demand.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements

  • Grade 12 Education
  • Proficiency in the English language both spoken and written, with the ability to communicate in French considered an asset.
  • Proven experience as a maintenance helper
  • Ability to safely use power and hand tools
  • Basic understanding of building systems
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Fireman’s Certificate
  • Experience working in a commercial or public building setting.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards or procedures.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Fall Arrest training.
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office applications experience.
  • Communicate effectively, expressing ideas and concepts in oral and written form.

Detail oriented with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness, and a strong ability to multi-task.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Transportation Security Clearance
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an Airside Vehicle Operators Permit
  • An Industry Canada Radio License.
