What we are looking for:


The Waiting Room Navigation Support will support navigating patients who present to the Emergency Department Entrance of Markham Stouffville Hospital. Key Areas of focus include:

  • Flow and Patient Rooms Support
  • Wayfinding
  • Triage and Ambulatory Wait Rooms Support

Non- exclusive roles & responsibilities include;

  • Greet patients at triage
  • Liaise between patient and ED staff
  • Support Visitor Policy and provide information to families with support of charge nurse as required
  • Support timely updates and ‘crowd control’ in waiting rooms as appropriate

  • Monitor volumes, PIA times, status updates ( MD2C, Treatment in progress, DI, discharge)
  • Prepare rooms for patient examination ( e.g. changing disposable examination paper)
  • Provide wheelchair support (ensure 4 wheelchairs minimum available)
  • Direct patients from triage area to assessment room (e.g. Yellow/ purple zone)
  • Provide patients with gowns and related instructions as appropriate as delegated by the HCP
  • Communicates and collaborates with internal and external partners to maximize flow (eg ultrasound, WR navigator, physician/ NP/PA [reassessments])
  • Communicates patient care/flow concerns to nurses

What you bring to the role:

  • Successful completion of a high school diploma
  • Preferred enrolment or completion of health care related post secondary education
  • Availability to work a variety of shifts (days, nights), 7 days per week
  • Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors and to stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to wear protective apparel (e. mask, face shield, gloves and gowns)
  • Demonstrated strong communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Sound judgment and conflict management skills
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with a variety of people in a team environment
  • Second language(s) is an asset
  • Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.

Work Schedule:


The successful candidate must be available to work 12 shifts and/or 8 hour shifts during the day, evening or nights including weekends, with flexibility to cover additional shifts as required.

Compensation:

19.00/hour
