TITLE: Youth Mental Health Program Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Youth Mental Health Director
POSITION SUMMARY: Full Time
The Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention (RCSP) is a local not-for-profit and registered charity that provides public education and support around suicide prevention.
The Youth Mental Health Program Coordinator (the Coordinator) is a full-time position, 35 hours per week, requiring and providing work hour flexibility. The suitable candidate must be available for some weekend and evening hours in addition to being available for the RCSP office hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
The Coordinator is primarily responsible for the organization, implementation, and facilitation of the Alberta Health Services’ Community Helpers Program. In addition, the Coordinator is responsible to assist, as directed by the Director, in the implementation of the RCSP youth mental health programming.
The Community Helpers Program is a mental health peer support training model targeted at youth and young adults ages 12 and up that equips participants with the skills to be effective and supportive helpers. It is a free training initiative available to community-based settings (schools, workplaces, and community organizations) that enhances community capacity for mental health through an assets-based approach.
This position involves establishing and maintaining working partnerships with community stakeholders; coordination and scheduling of content delivery; facilitation of content to youth and youth supporting adults in a variety of settings; ongoing development and revision of module content to ensure relevance and age/audience appropriate material; ongoing collaboration with Youth Mental Health Director and provincial Community Helpers Program Coordinators via Basecamp and monthly meetings.
This position is dependent on financial support from Alberta Health Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in the social sciences/social work
- Knowledge and experience in mental health service delivery
- Skills in crisis intervention and risk assessment
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop certification
- Indigenous Canada Course
- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certification
- Standard First Aid & CPR or equivalent
- OR a combination of relevant experience and willingness/ability to learn
- Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle (some travel is required within a 1-2-hour radius of Grande Prairie)
- Child and Youth Intervention Check (every 2 years) and Criminal Record check (every 3 years)
