Employment: Day Shift

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Chief Power Engineer is responsible for operating and monitoring boilers and auxiliary equipment to provide production support. To be successful, we require excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work cohesively as a member of the Maintenance team.

Core Responsibilities:

• Communicate with regulatory officials to ensure compliance with all regulations
• Maintain the physical plant and auxiliary equipment to ensure safe and consistent operation
• Look for ways to improve equipment performance and reduce costs
• Assemble, install, test and maintain equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixture
• Dismantle and repair equipment using power and hand tools
• Monitor pressures and temperatures on all refrigeration and steam equipment as well as boiler start up and shut down
• Rebuild or repair mechanical seals, motors, compressors, pumps, and other equipment involving steam or ammonia
• Report any food safety and/or quality issues to the Team Leader to ensure appropriate resolution
• Maintain close working relationships to create an efficient information channel
• Assist with and support team projects and duties as required
• Comply with all HACCP and SQF requirements
• Actively participate in HACCP and SQF training with the purpose of gaining knowledge and understanding
• Advise and assist others to ensure department compliance

Minimum Requirements:

• Third (3rd) Class Power Engineering ticket
• Ability to identify and solve problems
• Experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems
• Experience working in a manufacturing facility is an asset
• Able to perform physical tasks that require frequent bending and twisting throughout the shift
• Able to perform repetitive hand movements
• Able to work in a refrigerated environment (approximately 2° C)
• Able to utilize computer system to update work orders and send out communications
• Able to communicate and maintain working relationship with coworkers
• Project management experience related to boiler and refrigeration equipment – an asset
• Experience managing and provide direction to power engineers – an asset
• Experience with negotiating and manage projects with vendors – an asset
• Experience with calculating costs, materials, labor for projects, repairs and preventative maintenance – an asset
• Experience setting short and long term goals with regards to boilers and refrigeration equipment – an asset
