SUMMARY: The Controller is responsible for the company’s consolidated financial reporting including budgeting, forecasting, the maintenance of financial records and the establishment of comprehensive internal controls. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to drive improvements in reporting and FP&A via leveraging the company’s investment in a top tier ERP platform. This role will report directly to the CFO. This position will have the ability to work remotely 1 day per week.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning, directing, and coordinating all operational accounting functions for two companies including the management and mentorship of a team of six accounting staff in Brampton and oversite of accounting for a newly incorporated business in Mexico
- Four facilities (2 in Brampton, 1 in Concord, 1 in Mexico)
- Three lines of business (Plastic Injection Molds, PET molds, IML Robotics/Automation)
- Coordinating the preparation of internal and external financial reporting including quarterly bank reporting, budgets, and monthly financial reporting to the ownership group
- Assist CFO with the development and monitoring of key KPIs and metrics
- Management and coordination of external audits
- Evaluate and document existing reporting, budgeting, and internal control systems as part of the company’s Digital Transformation / ERP implementation
- Oversee all accounting related Digital Transformation / ERP implementation matters including costing considerations, chart of accounts structure, controls (SOD, workflow etc.) while driving continuous improvements within the department through the leveraging of RPA and other technologies
- Oversight of regulatory reporting including tax planning and compliance including contemporaneous documentation / transfer pricing
- Other special projects as assigned by the CFO and the President/CEO
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to professional development
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in business, accounting or a related discipline AND a CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience with preference given to candidates possessing at least 2 years of management level accounting experience in a custom engineered to order manufacturing environment
- Alternatively, candidates with at least 3 years of Public Accounting (Audit) experience may apply
- Proficiency with respect to technology including ERP implementation experience (with preference given to candidates with Microsoft Dynamics 365 / F&O specific experience)
- Working knowledge of ASPE and IFRS accounting standards in the context of a custom engineer to order manufacturing environment
- The company is transitioning to IFRS as of 2024
- Working knowledge of Canadian corporate tax and transfer pricing / international tax
