Director of Finance, Full Time, Permanent

The Town of Kentville, Nova Scotia is looking for the next great leader of their Finance Team.

The Director of Finance is an exciting, full-time role for a local government finance professional with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others across multiple departments. The Director of Finance will work closely with other members of the finance team to ensure accurate, reliable, regular reporting of financial information for the Town of Kentville.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Finance provides leadership to, and oversees the daily operations of the Finance Department – a team of 5 with over 70 years combined experience. The Director also provides leadership and support to other operational groups (Information Technology, Recreation, Engineering and Public Works, Planning and Development, Administration, Kentville Police Service, Volunteer Fire Department, and Water Commission) as it pertains to budgets, maintenance and implementation of internal controls, cash management and administrative policies, and procedures related to finance.

The Director manages all financial reporting activities for the Town including oversight of the investment portfolio, and the operating and capital budget process. This position is also responsible for the Health and Safety of all Finance department staff and the promotion of a healthy and supportive working environment.

About you:

· Have or are working towards a Chartered Professional Accountant Designation

· 5 years of experience working in municipal finance or a related finance role

· Proven leadership or managerial skills and experience working in a supervisory role

· Effective team builder with strong interpersonal and conflict management skills

· Proven track record providing sound financial guidance and stewardship

· Excellent communicator, regularly presenting to Town Council in a public setting

· Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and comfortable working in a technology supported environment

· Familiar with Microsoft Dynamics and the F9 financial reporting software (preferred)

· Knowledge of unionized groups (preferred)

· Actively contribute to an open, inclusive, and diverse work culture
