Driver Trainer: Kootenays

Sutco Transportation, a proud Sutherland Group company, is hiring for a Driver Trainer in the West Kootenays to provide in-cab training and support mentorship programs for new and existing drivers. The goal is to ensure the long-term success and career development of professional Class 1 drivers with Sutco Transportation Specialists.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide in-cab driver training to new and existing employees.
• Conduct incident assessments, including follow up with the drivers.
• Complete and submit all reports related to training and development of team members.
• Provide positive reinforcement and build morale, as a front-line representative for the company training programs.
• Ensure that adequate safety and job performance training and mentorship are provided to all team members, addressing situations where company policies or procedures have not been followed.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding training personnel and sensitive company information.
• Attend training courses and stay up to date with current industry standards and work site safety practices.
• Actively participate in safety meetings and action change.
• Maintain composure when dealing with tense or emotional situations.
• Perform regularly assigned driver functions as required when not in an active trainer role.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Class 1 Driver’s Licence with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a commercial truck driver.
• Experience of hauling Super B trailers and winter mountain driving is required.
• Experience in transporting wood residuals or flat deck freight is preferred.
• Instructor certification or experience as an instructor in a commercial setting is preferred.
• Experience operating wheel loader is preferred.
• Working knowledge of all provincial, federal and cross-border transportation regulations.
• Strong organizational, time management and communication skills.
• Basic Computer Skills.
• Ability to publicly address groups of employees concerning company matters and while conducting training exercises.
• Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
• Ability to demonstrate discretion and composure and remain neutral in disposition while handling sensitive situations.

WHAT WE OFFER

• $35.00/hour.

• 4% vacation pay (equivalent to 2 weeks annual) to start, increasing based on years of service
