Economic Development Officer Job at Wellington Waterloo Community Futures
Reporting to the General Manager, the Economic Development Officer is responsible for collaborating with Economic Development Officers in the County of Wellington and the Region of Waterloo to build community relationships with local businesses, rural organizations, and municipalities.
What you'll do
- Identify opportunities that increase the potential for local economic activity in the community
- Conduct data collection and analysis in order to promote/understand economic development and tourism opportunities in the WWCF coverage area
- Ongoing liaison with industry base including attendance at appropriate organizations such as Chamber of Commerce, Wellington County Municipal Economic Development Committee, Woolwich Economic Development, Workforce Planning Board Wellington Waterloo Dufferin, etc.
- Maintain communications with various external organizations with an interest in business development to maintain an awareness of trends, techniques, and opportunities
- Participate in regional economic planning initiatives as required
- Identify funding opportunities and prepare applications for various community programs
- Lead appropriate community economic development initiatives
- Establish appropriate key performance indicators, track, and prepare annual reports to present to WWCF board of directors and stakeholders
- Create marketing materials and promote Economic Development and Tourism programming
- Maintain expertise at a high level by attending appropriate courses, seminars, and conferences and by undertaking selected reading
What you’ll bring
- Post-secondary degree in Business, Marketing, Economic Development, Tourism or equivalent
- Three (3) years related experience preferably in Community Economic Development or a municipal environment
- Demonstrated ability to develop and foster internal and external relationships
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and work on several projects/tasks simultaneously and prioritize accordingly
- Ability to conduct economic, demographic and market research
- Excellent oral, written, and visual presentation skills
- A valid “G” Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
- Experience with preparing content for social media and websites
- Assets for the position include courses in Economic Development, Business Development, Marketing, and previous experience in a public sector
