We are currently looking for an Embedded Software Developer to join our busy and growing manufacturing company. GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Reporting directly to the Director of Product Development, the Embedded Software Developer will be responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of new and legacy firmware. This position does not have any direct reports.
Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Maintain, improve, and troubleshoot existing firmware for legacy electronic products
- Design and development of embedded software / firmware for a variety of new electronic products
- Preparation of design documents, test plans, and validating strategy for the firmware
- Collaborate with other technical groups / Engineers as part of a cross-disciplinary design team
- Troubleshoot, test, and document problems
- Suggest and implement improvements
- Research and analyze customer requirements and specifications to determine design approach and parameters
- Work with safety and regulatory bodies such as FCC, CSA, UL, Measurement Canada
- Perform unit testing and integration testing
- Support Quality Control
- All other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
- Skilled in the use of a variety of firmware development and debugging tools (CCS, IAR, Keil, MPLAB, etc.)
- Knowledge of Real-Time Firmware Architectures, Bare-metal device driver implementation
- Knowledge of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
- Understanding of software development life cycle, software documentation and unit testing. Familiar with Agile/Kanban.
- Excellent problem solving and debugging skills
- Familiarity in using source control and Ticketing software (e.g., JIRA)
- Knowledge of and experience using lab equipment such as multimeters, logic analyzers, debuggers, and scopes.
- Capable of reading electronic schematics and PCB layouts
Educational/Experience Requirements:
- University Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
- 3-5 years of experience in Embedded Firmware development.
- Solid experience writing code in C and Assembly Languages for a variety of u-controllers (MSP340, 8/16-bit Microchip, ARM based ST micro) on bare metal boards as well as for RTOS based systems.
- Experience with RS232/I2C/SPI/USB and TCP/IP communication protocols
- Knowledge of ADCs, DACs, and sensors (Temperature, Pressure, Wiegand sensors, etc.) is a plus
- Knowledge about Gas Utilities is an asset
- Understanding of Digital/Analog electronics is an asset
