About the Job:

Reporting to the Program Manager, Maxxine Wright Place, the Pregnancy Outreach worker will be working alongside other health and social service providers in Surrey and surrounding communities to support women who are pregnant and at risk to access services to increase and improve factors that lead to healthy birth outcomes. The Pregnancy Outreach worker (POW) will support primarily women who are low medical risk and high social risk. The POW will work with women who are experiencing or have experienced violence and abuse, who may be struggling with substance use and or mental wellness, who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or unsafely housed, involved in street-level sex work, criminalized, newly arrived to Canada, and women from communities that are hard to reach because of social, cultural or economic barriers. The POW’s primary responsibility is supporting the woman, to support her pregnancy. A compassionate pro-choice orientation is required.

About You:

You are a detail orientated, proactive and outgoing person passionate about the work of ending violence against women and children. You embrace Atira’s mission, vision, values and philosophy and have a well-developed understanding of and commitment to anti-oppression work. Your solid understanding of the dynamics of violence against women, the intersectionality of oppressions within a feminist framework, and working within a harm reduction context, along with the ability to apply this understanding to your day-to-day work, helps guide you in your interactions with our funders and partners, your co-workers, and the women we support. Your experience working with women who are pregnant and who may be struggling with substance use and or mental wellness sets you apart from other applicants.

Additional Requisites/Assets:

• A valid First Aid Certificate is required
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is an asset
• Covid-19 (Including Booster) and annual flu vaccinations are required, unless with exemption
• All positions are subject to a Criminal Records Review (Submitted by Atira)
• A valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle while on shift
• Reliable vehicle & ability to acquire Business Class insurance with $2 million liability
• Minimum one (1) year front-line support work experience, preference given to candidates with lived expertise
